2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumI'm getting sick of Bernie trying to interrupt Hillary, waving his finger around
while she's talking, and otherwise trying to distract from what she's saying.
She calmly listens when he talks, but he grimaces, waves his fingers, shakes his head, and practically jumps out of his skin when she's talking.
Why doesn't he just wait for the moderator to say it's his turn?
So obnoxious.
ON EDIT: Can you imagine the reaction if ANY WOMAN used his body language on TV? Wagged her finger, angrily shook her head, pursed her lips, etc. She'd be accused of being on the edge of hysteria.

"We came, we bombed, they drowned!"

Europe is being filled with refugees from wars instigated by USA and promoted by both Bush, GOP as well as Hillary in a time where anti-war dissent could get you fired from MSM.
I am sure that both you, and Hillary will appreciate the anti- war books coming out about these subjects. I can promise you that Hillary Will NOT look good in at least one of them.
So how sure are you that she will make the right decision the 5th time as commander in chief when she couldn't get it right the first four times?
"They won by 21.6% you say? Let's ignore the will of the people and trust our "Super" delegates to make the right decision for them. We'll get their votes at a later date somehow."

(27,247 posts)She unabashedly shilled for it on the Senate floor, while Robert Byrd gave an impassioned speech against it.
And Bernie spoke out against it in the House.
Carolina
(6,960 posts)Byrd's speech was a powerful plea for sanity. He challenged the rush to war and spoke of the waste of war. But some like HRC were thinking of political aspirations and showed moral and political cowardice.
but cowardly votes from Democrats who had their eyes on the White House gave GWB bipartisan cover.
What's worse is that the Bush White House pushed for the IWR vote just before the 2002 midterms, clearly a political ploy that many saw as such. Many a Jane and John Q Public also knew that IWR was ridiculous since Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11 (15 of the 19 hijackers were from Saudi Arabia, the others from Yemen, Egypt, UAE) and had been under under horrific US pushed, UN imposed sanctions since the first Bush/Iraq war in 1991. In October 2002, HRC had 4 years to go in her 1st term, knew about PNAC and had a constituency that opposed such action. But her vote wasn't about what NY wanted, it was about her... and her White House aspirations. Adding insult to injury, she gave an speech justifying her action!
So regardless of what GWB would have done, her aye vote puts blood on her hands. And now she cannot dodge the death, destruction, debt and destabilization that war caused or the ongoing dire consequences of it throughout the ME and even stateside.

(108,977 posts)had not passed it that fall, then the new Republican Congress would have passed an even broader one in January.
Hillary, Biden, and Kerry were among the Democrats who hoped that passing an IWR conditioned on finding WMD's would keep Bush from going in there. It didn't.
But that vote didn't make a bit of difference.
notadmblnd
(23,720 posts)pnwmom
(108,977 posts)The IWR, as written, was about enforcing the UN resolutions regarding WMD's.
It turned out that there were no WMD's in Iraq. Bush ignored the conditions in the IWR and, in March, went to war anyway. With the full support of the Repubs in Congress. If Obama had ever done such a thing he would have been impeached. But Bush could ignore the conditions in the resolution and get the full support of the GOP.
notadmblnd
(23,720 posts)Wow! What an insider you must be.
Carolina
(6,960 posts)wanted to invade Iraq and carve up its oil fields and they used 9/11 as an excuse to do just that. IWR was pushed by the Bush White House just before the 2002 midterm elections, clearly s political ploy. And everyone with a grain of brain knew Bush was going to go to war and use IWR as his authorization. It was not about inspectors. The Bushes had called the inspectors home because they had found no WMDs and that went against the needed narrative.
HRC, Biden, Dodd, Edwards and Kerry failed the test of judgment. Period

(7,318 posts)This is his genuine self...he is not mugging. He talks with his hands. It is part of how he interacts. I think his advisers were wise to not make him over into something he is not. Studies have shown that women are much more likely to be interrupted by men than the other way around. And -- even though I think Bernie is probably an equal-opportunity-interrupter -- watching this, it seems to be an example of this in action.

(7,318 posts)He didn't actually interrupt that I saw, but I didn't see every moment, so maybe I missed him doing so. I seem to recall that in the first couple debates that Hillary actually did interupt the other candidates.
Their camera operator should not have been doing a split screen. It's rude to the one speaking, but I know, they want those gotcha moments.

I wanted to add that the war may not have been a big deal to you, but my dad went to that war he came back different. He told me some of his friends were killed. However I was lucky my dad came back intact. Many didn't come back at all, and many came back broken. millions of Iraqis were killed.
