(536 posts)How bad has it gotten. The Facetiousness was so obvious, just by the words alone. Now look at the number of posts by the writer. Not a troll and not a moron. Do we need the insulting graphic. Do Chris Rock and Bill Maher always end with, "That's Humor."

Sure easy to get bitten here. This is the first time it has ever happened to me.

(34,189 posts)Just type a colon : on either side of the word 'sarcasm' without the quotes.
That will put
into that spot.
Or click on the 'smilies' button above the Reply window, then on the '...' button at the end of the displayed smilies. The sarcasm smilies is the first in that extended group.

(15,652 posts)as a fellow female senior (68), white but married, someone here at DU helped me when I was a non-tech-savvy "newbie" and didn't know how to either. I'd like to pass it forward.
Just above the body of the message text when you respond to a post, there is an rectangular form with "smilies" inside. Just click on that and the whole world of "smilies" will appear. The "sarcasm" thingie is there along with a whole bunch of good ones, although you may have to click on the [...] for it to display. See:
Just select whatever smiley you want and click on it. The code will then be transferred to your message and will show up as a smiley when you post your response.
Please don't feel as if you've been "bitten." The overwhelming majority of folks here are courteous and although we may occasionally "bark" a bit more than we mean, a mean bark is not usually intentional.
Please enjoy the smilies! I do and this is one of my faves:

(12,882 posts)have we even SEEN a photo of an honest Romney/Ryan rally??? I mean something other than a rally that requires a dozen dinner tables to accomodate the attendees - something where the camera has to have a wide angle lens to capture the crowd. Has there been such a rally for Mitt (discounting the convention, of course)

(37,540 posts)It's always been this way....2000, 2004, 2008.....the Democrat get huuuuge crowds, the Republican never has a turnout like this. Why? No one who votes Republican wants to attend a Republican rally? really?

FDR speaking before a crowd of 30,000 in Atlanta to announce the clearing of a slum. Old dilapidated buildings were being torn down and replaced with new and modern homes.
And what happens to the residents of those slums?
They get to move into those new homes at no cost to themselves.
Imagine the outrage of the Republicans at the time.
Today, they would go completely insane.

(32,723 posts)It's probably too late now as the residents have dispersed all over the country.
I wonder how many of them can even claim ownership of the land. Knowing the way things went I picture the city confiscating their claim on the property because they left. It's why so many tried to stay. They saw this coming.
In a just world Habitat For Humanity would have been deployed and thousands of construction jobs would have been created rebuilding all through the entire South. This would have created jobs all over the country in manufacturing as new appliances and plumbing and even nails were ordered, not to mention lumber and roofing. Quarries producing raw materials for concrete and drywall, the truckers delivering supplies, and then there's all the warehouse workers and office people needed to process and track everything. It could have been amazing.
Instead,...it still looks like this:

BTW: The residents have a message for those who think it would be cool to drive through the area to see the devastation.

(32,723 posts)The very idea of being able to live on land without entering a system designed to create wealth for the already wealthy is unimaginable.
I tried to explain to a neighbour how even a simple wood frame 5-plex building works. It's listed at $1,000,000. Someone with $1,000,000 in the bank earning 3% brings in $30,000 a year. However the 5-plex brings in rent from five families each paying $1,000 a month, thus the return is $5,000 a month or $60,000 a year. He asked me about when the owner would get his million dollars back and I told him the million doesn't matter. It's just extra money set aside to make money. They have no intention of getting it back. What the tenants REALLY need to worry about is if the building is insured for $2,000,000 because fires happen you know....
Then I said just because you and I don't know anybody with money like that doesn't mean they don't exist. (Actually, I DO know people like that and they are obsessed with water bills and think poor people must be really dirty)

(6,083 posts)And noticed it was a really large crowd. Not sure where it was but the size of the crowd for Obama was impressive. Wonder how Mitt's crowds are sizing up? Guess with his stellar performance the other night, they are coming out in droves. Wanna bet we can show them up with a surge in the number AND enthusiasm of the Obama crowds???
