Related: About this forumHillary and Bernie attend same church service. Bernie leaves early while Hillary stays till the end.
http://www.cnn.com/2016/02/14/politics/bernie-sanders-hillary-clinton-church/index.html
Yesterday, Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders attended the same church services in Nevada. Both gave speeches. However, Bernie left early, while Hillary had the common decency and courtesy to stay for the entire service.
I think this is very disrespectful from Bernie Sanders. It makes him look insincere. Just think about this. You are a church goer who sees Bernie leave early. Then you see Hillary staying till the end. No matter how you put it, Bernie comes out looking badly.
Kudos to Hillary Clinton for showing respect and common decency.

polly7
(20,582 posts)That's not hatred. It's acknowledging that actions caused human suffering for millions - including children. And again in Libya, and Honduras. Pushing for a no-fly-zone for Syria that would cause the same. Pushing the propaganda against Iran that will guarantee even more of the same if it's accepted, as it was for Iraq.
Maybe the hatred is for 'brown children' as 'collateral damage'?

Hillary Clinton left her audience cold in Iowa City on Thursday night, after she spoke for less than five minutes to a crowd of more than a thousand people, some of whom had lined up for more than an hour to see her.
***
But Clinton did not refer to the Vermont senator, or much else, in her speech. The lack of length and substance of her address appeared to upset some in the crowd.
It was like a political commercial, said Allison Steigerwald, a 24-year-old graduate student at the university. I thought she was saying goodbye to Demi and then shed start her speech. But it never happened.

Bernie had a commitment to honour and he kept it, it's a shame you don't recognize how important that is but not surprising. Some people value a sense of honour and decency and others don't.

(15,480 posts)Hillary gate-crashes Bernie's campaign stops! How desperate is that?
Given the opportunity to speak, Bernie addressed issues, HRC used it as an opportunity to attack her opponent. How un-Christian of Methodist-raised Hillary. And I have no doubt that Bernie, who is unfailingly polite, explained to people why he was leaving.
And I really hope the sermon was on throwing the money-changers out of the Temple! That would have made Hillary squirm.
Sanders, along with his wife Jane and some members of his staff, entered the Victory Missionary Baptist Church after Clinton was already seated and waiting. The two candidates sat on opposite sides of the packed church, both in the front row, and each listened as the other addressed the crowd. Rep. John Lewis accompanied Clinton.
Pastor Fowler of Victory Baptist Church told his lively congregation, "I am encouraged by the fact that (they) were willing to come sit in the same church, same service, same time."
He said that the Sanders campaign contacted the church first about attending the service this particular Sunday, and so although Sanders arrived second, he spoke first.

Clinton stayed for the entire service and Sanders left early, heading to a rally at a nearby high school.
Pastor Robert E. Fowler thanked both the candidates for coming, noting that he was "encouraged by the fact that they are willing to sit in the same church, same service, same time." After both candidates spoke, Fowler asked Sanders and Clinton to stand as the congregants prayed for them.

Bad Thoughts
(2,657 posts)As a Jew, I know how uncomfortable it can be to attend the services of another religion. You don't do anything, you can't do anything, and you know not how to do anything. Whenever I am invited to some service--a wedding, christening, funeral--I specifically ask that I be seated at the back-most row so that people cannot notice that I am not singing, not reciting, not kneeling, and not holding a book at the same time as everyone else. There is a lot of discussion about theology (the nature of G-d) that just not only not present in Judaism, but which Jews actively resist because of the prohibition against idolatry. Not to mention that Christian services are generally more reverential and disciplined than what Jews would expect.

(2,074 posts)but I just don't see the problem here. Personally, when I attend services of another religion, I observe but don't participate, but I prefer to stay for the duration. But if Bernie had to leave, I just don't think it's a big deal. He is a non-religious Jew. Hillary is an observant Christian. It makes more sense for her to stay. I just don't see this as an issue.
Although I'm sure Bernie fans would freak out if they had attended synagogue and Hillary had left early.
