Then the actual value of the political endorsement is small, when compared to the votes.

... that are associated with the endorsement of (for example) national labor unions. The ability to organize and get the volunteers out there doesn't just magically happen... there needs to be some impressive organization and infrastructure already in place. Those t-shirts and signs and flyers and pamphlets cost money to design and produce ... and the national labor unions (and others) have that available to them.

These aren't just empty "rah-rah" endorsements. There's some important oomph that comes with them as well. It's a mistake to disregard the important role they play, just as it is to be dismissive because of who did (or who did not) get "polled" for the final endorsement. (That's why the unions HAVE leaders, that's why they were selected in the first place, to make those types of decisions.)

Why have a leader at all if one expect them to "poll-the-members" for each and every decision---large or small---right down to the office supplies?

"These aren't just empty "rah-rah" endorsements."... "oomph"

The "Oomph" no doubt, has impact, and influence. You make a very valid point.
