(14,689 posts)Bill Clinton basically threw him under the bus for Hillary's terrible performance in 2008.
I'd have liked to have his endorsement, but SC is pretty much gone for Bernie Sanders already.

(14,719 posts)The state' top Dem elected official
endorsing Clinton must be a good sign for Sanders.

(14,689 posts)At least he won't be getting any more nasty phone calls from former presidents in the middle of the night.
Sanders supporters might say something mean about him on Facebook, but I doubt they'll stoop to the level of President Clinton.
kcjohn1
(751 posts)That whatever effect they have are already in place. Basically the whole black caucus endorsed her. Most politicians in SC back her (BTW same thing in Iowa/NH).
So this endorsoment is not a surprise. The more telling is why is Clyburn endorsing her now?
https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/powerpost/wp/2016/02/09/jim-clyburn-considering-endorsing-clinton-as-harry-reid-reiterates-neutrality-pledge/
Both Reid, the Senate minority leader, and Clyburn, the No. 3 Democrat in House leadership, have previously expressed their intention to remain neutral through the Feb. 20 Nevada caucuses and Feb. 27 South Carolina primary.
If Clinton was up 20+ points in SC IMO Clyburn would not be endorsing her. This is sign of firewall breaking apart.

(11,243 posts)The firewall is getting even stronger. Sanders is not closing the deal, IMO.
kcjohn1
(751 posts)There would be no need for Clyburn to endorse. This guy is a party leader. Taking sides in primary is beneath those in leadership. Hell the guy didn't want to endorse in 08 despite having historic candidate in Obama.
The fact they think they need the endorsement tells you the state of the race. We will find out in a weeks time.

Clinton made a HUGE speech in Harlem this week. She closed the deal. Your guy couldn't. But chin up, you got Pussy Riot!

Didn't persuade me that would work, and looks like it didn't persuade a bunch or way more important people, either.
Welcome to politics on the big stage. You gotta build coalitions.

(3,146 posts)I watched their documentary a few weeks ago. Those young ladies are an extremely brave bunch. Why wouldn't you want their endorsement? I ask that because my interpretation is that their endorsement seems like a punch line to you. Do you even know their story?

(11,836 posts)side question
what do you think of that sc gov endorsing rubio especially after the robot performance?
does that signal what the inside gop wants?
i ask because rubio is probably the deadliest rep candidate
kcjohn1
(751 posts)Look at it from Haley's perspective. There are only 3 establishment candidates left. Rubio/Bush/Kascich. Only one of those polling in double digits is Rubio.
Politicians generally endorse to further their political careers. She could have endorsed Trump, but that would be very risky b/c you would be betting that not only does Trump beat GOP establishment but also beats the Dems. Rubio is the safest pick out of all the GOP establishment candidates.
Kasich is much more dangerous than Rubio. I think Rubio is lightweight, and although he would be formidable, he could be beat. Kasich would easily beat Clinton, and would be slight favorite against Sanders.

This, in addition to Luis Gutiérrez' scathing piece at Univision, is very very bad for Sanders. Very bad.
