OMG even at HBCUs they are Feeling the Bern
Many of the students in the room told BuzzFeed News that they are, in fact, supporting Bernie Sanders.
The consensus here is that Bernie is for the people, said Joyce Haynes, a senior at Allen University who sang the national anthem for Sanders at a recent rally. Like, literally for the people. Not just playing politics. And thats what I like about him.
Sanders has, for one thing, visited the campus. (Clinton has not, though her husband has.) His education platform (free public college) is popular. The argument, several students noted, that Clinton is more qualified doesnt do much for them.
And then there is the national reality in polling that younger Democratic voters, especially those voting in their first election, are overwhelmingly with him. That the gap in support among young voters between Clinton and Sanders extends to historically black schools (HCBUs) has become a source of concern among the Democratic Partys black elite in Washington, most of whom are supporting Clinton. snip.....

Millennials see a Powerball lottery ticket in Bernie Sanders. The odds of any of his proposals happening are about the same odds as winning that jackpot

I haven't heard about the free cars yet...
Education is crucial for our national future--if people were more educated we wouldn't have so many crazies
in office, education boosts productivity, reduces poverty, and helps to stem racism.
Health care--just because it is the right thing to do. There is plenty of money in this country to accomplish these goals,
it's just in the hands of the wrong people.

(36,594 posts)a blind eye to 29 million without healthcare, record incarceration, record number in poverty, 62 people with the same wealth as 3.4 billion, you must have bumped your head. You can laugh all you want, but supporting your candidate means President Trump, and that my friend is also something I do not support.

Maybe Hillary can bring them to heel.

(1,890 posts)I liked this passage too
Its clear that hes trying to relate to us, Walker said.
Though she sang the anthem at the Sanders event, Haynes is undecided. Shes leaning toward Sanders, whom she feels is most genuine in his approach to HBCUs. But she came anyway to hear what Clyburn had to say about Clinton and walked away mostly unimpressed. While he said that his heart is with her, he didnt advocate for her in a definitive way that she was the one candidate that you had to vote for to get changes made, he said.
