Hillary Clintons Emails: Secret Negotiations With NY Times, Trade Bill Lobbying Revealed In Latest State Department Release Jackie Salo & David Sirota
Some timely reporting by Salo and Sirota in IB Times. Draw your own conclusions.
The latest batch of emails dating back to Hillary Clintons tenure as U.S. secretary of state shows her appearing to lobby members of the Senate on controversial trade bills and her office communicating with the New York Times about holding a sensitive article. The State Department release of documents on her private email server Friday came the day before the Democratic presidential candidate heads into the Nevada caucuses.
and (my bold) .
Other emails show Clinton seeming to personally lobby her former Democratic colleagues in the Senate to support free trade agreements (FTAs) with Colombia, Panama and South Korea. She had previously told voters she would work to block the Colombian and South Korean pacts.
An email Oct. 8, 2011, to Clinton from her aide Huma Abedin gave notes about the state of play in Congress on the proposed trade pacts. The notes provided Clinton some background before you make the calls to legislators.
Many things are said on the campaign trail. I feel we as Democrats MUST pick the right candidate that is electable. Please read this article. We as a party need to make sure. I feel truth is the essential in what people say they will strive to do. We must ask, will they? Can we trust them. Matters very important to our unions and their members are being discussed in these speeches. Unions are a large part of our Democratic coalition. Our union brothers and sisters are depending on our candidate to go to the wall for them as promised. Which candidate can we count on to do that?
Just as the transcripts of Mrs. Clintons high priced speechs to Wall Street are not being released it strikes to what our possible candidate does and does not want us to know about her word. It will not fly, I believe, in the general election, and it should not fly in the primary. She will be asked ad infinitum about these emails. At some point they may even come out from another source. Can we afford to wait for that moment as a party?
Do I care that Katie Perry was possibly paid $70,000 to perform for Hillary. No. If they want to spend precious funds that way, so be it. My question is what do we believe? The illusion of a youthful endorsement or just an employee with a big payday? What about Demi Lovato? What about Morgan Freeman? On and on. Are they highly paid endorsements or real endorsements?
What is real and what is illusion?
Below is an interview with CBS news.
I have included the entire clip for context to be fair. The question of telling the truth as a president is asked at the 2:13 mark.
Do I think being as straight forward as one can be with ones word as President or as an elected official is important? I think it is essential. That is why I took the time to make this Diary. That is why in the five decades I have been a Democrat I feel I have found a candidate that is, I believe, as sincere as they come in Bernie Sanders. I believe he will work hard, with us, to make as much of what we are striving for together come to pass.
Our own vote is of course our own vote. I, as your Democratic partner, just respectfully ask you to weigh it.
Peace

(9,688 posts)That implication is consistent with the implication to be drawn from her opposition to a single-payer health care system guaranteeing a basic universal level of service. She opposes this tried and true plan in favor of depending on private insurance exclusively, and accompanies this opposition with some cockamamie promise that 100% subordination to the private insurance market will lead "incrementally" to universal health care (whew! But that's the argument being made, folks!).
It's beyond ludicrous.

(9,688 posts)I think this is, in fact, the best guide to her motivation, since it obviously represents a long term dedicated effort that leaves little time for much else, and it suggests that she's lying to a purpose.

(9,688 posts)I'm Canadian so log in from Canada, and the above link was like a lot of links on DU where I get "The uploader has not made this video available in your country", in this case because the uploader is CBS Evening News. Yes, the US MSM (this isn't only CBS) has built a wall around the USA - and it didn't need Trump to build it. Yes, the US bubble gets thicker at the border.
Have you ever heard of any way to get around this?
Remember, it isn't a matter of cost. The uploader is putting this restriction on for political reasons, not cost reasons, and most uploaders of worthwhile and interesting content want a world-wide audience, in a lot of cases for no other reason than that it pays better.

(9,688 posts)That's not about my real question.
I just made an OP of this in GD.
My OPs always sink like stones thrown in a pond.

(1,278 posts)I can kinda understand movie distributor's position on Geo-fencing and distribution rights, but the CBS Evening News, public airways on "free" unencrypted clear TV boggles the mind. I guess the same situation if I wanted to watch CBC News, CTV, or GlobalTV down here in NC.
