Who "accidently" crashes a party?

Romney said that he had received an invitation in his mailbox for a neighborhood holiday party and had not intended to go until he saw the house across the street from him lit up in Christmas decorations and with people milling on the porch.

“People were on the porch. They were kind of looking over at our house and I thought, ‘Oh, my goodness I wasn’t planning on going to this, but we’ll look like we’re not social if we don’t show up,’” Romney said. “So I said to Ann, ‘We’ve got to go to this party. I got this flier about the neighborhood party. We gotta go over there,’ so she said OK.”

Romney said he and his wife had dinner, took photos with everyone and then realized they were at the wrong party.

“Turns out, this wasn’t the neighborhood party,” Romney said, laughing. “So we were a little embarrassed but they treated us well nonetheless and I got to meet some really interesting people.”

I'd love to know when and where this party was - I doubt people were milling on the porch in Massachusetts!

He was at the party; I'm saying that the notion that he just had to stop by doesn't pass the smell test!

set far back into the estate? Sort of like Palin able to see Russia from her porch.

4. Was this Doherty's house of just a home he was visiting for a party?

Because if Romney is saying it was Doherty's home, what kind of income did that man have to live in a neighborhood across the street from the Romneys? I thought he was part of the military and was working at the embassy in Libya. Doesn't sound like the kind of career or income to allow one to live in Romney's gated, upscale neighborhood.

So saying Doherty lived in Romney's neighborhood is highly suspect.

a very affluent town one or two towns over from Belmont. Maybe he had friends who lived in Belmont.

I see that Mitty is claiming he ran into him at the party and they talked about skiing.

Now that the parents and his best friend are saying Romney's telling a far different story should be splashed all over the news saying, "just what WON'T this man lie about to get elected?"

"neighborhood" parties in that neighborhood. Romney's house is on Marsh Street way set back from the street...waaay back. I find it unbelievable that he could see anyone on a porch from where he was. I don't doubt that he went to the party but I seriously doubt his story on how he got there. His story smells to high heaven. Why is this man compelled to lie about almost everything?

he downsized and moved to an upscale condo complex, also in Belmont. And I know people are going to find this strange, but my brother who lived in the Marsh Street neighborhood, also moved in to that condo complex. I have been there and didn't see porches, I saw decks. But at the condo he could definately have seen neighbors.

where the Romneys have their car elevator villa.

EDIT:

Here's a story mentioning the party as taking place near his home in La Jolla, CA.

"...As he was wrapping up a town hall meeting here with factory workers, Romney recalled meeting Doherty a few years ago at a neighborhood Christmas party near Romney’s beach home in La Jolla, Calif. ..."
