Interesting. If you watch the #WhichHillary feed, there are still several tweets coming per second, and it made over 300k tweets before being dropped from the trending list despite the next highest being at 61k.

(9,527 posts)to showcase emerging trends right? So something that is older (in Twitterverse time) will naturally move off of the trending list. Likewise rate of growth of the use of a specific hashtag can prompt something getting on the list. So if for example the hashtag had been getting 10 tweets per second, but it dropped to 2 tweets per second, that might drop it off the list.

(3,660 posts)But if you watched the feed, the tweets are still coming in too fast to read, and the volume is still higher than the next ones. It's doubtful that with the current volume rate it's slowed enough to justify algorithmic removal when contrasted to those below where it would be.
