(24 posts)The candidates put the donor information in the DNC database. During the election an individual's contribution records are only available to the candidate receiving the donation. However, do you trust Debbie to keep your data secret from Hillary?
Agschmid
(28,749 posts)That's a public record just FYI.

(1,508 posts)don't we. I am also starting to get mail from her campaign, I also have only donated to Bernie. It isn't hard to put 2 and 2 together here.
In 2015, a database of 191 million U.S. voters was exposed on the internet and included names, addresses, birth dates, party affiliations, phone numbers and emails of voters in all 50 U.S. states and Washington. If this is where it comes from, it still doesn't give either campaign the right to utilize that data.
Agschmid
(28,749 posts)Do you realize that is publicly accessible information?
monicaangela
(1,508 posts)my information can be accessed by any campaign that wants to plead for my vote. I haven't received anything from republicans, and at one time there were 17 republican candidates.
Also too: The United States has no state or federal election agency, and thus no central lists. In 2002, the United States Congress passed the Help America Vote Act (HAVA). HAVA required that each state compile an official state voter database by January 2006. Most states complied with HAVA by gathering the voter files available from each individual county. States decided what information to include, what restrictions to place on the use of their voter database, and how much the database would cost. In the United States, several companies have merged state voter information with commercially obtained data to create comprehensive voter databases that include a plethora of personal details on each voter. These companies often provide United States Voter Files to statutorily permitted or otherwise non-restricted users.

And that's also how Hillary got it, just FYI.

(1,508 posts)to just anyone without some real effort. Try to see if you can get it that easy.
Agschmid
(28,749 posts)As an example.
There are many more, try Google.
Voter registration is public information, walk into the town clerk and get the list if you want it (might take time, might take money) both campaigns have those things.

Whatcha gonna do with yours?
I want those superPACS to get all they've paid for and perhaps take my name me off their shitty list.

(27,814 posts)... from Bernie and O'Malley, although I have no connection to either of their campaigns.
But it's still amusing that while Bernie's camp got caught red-handed stealing Hill's info, and he had to fire three staffers as a result, the "it was Hillary who stole info" meme is still being trotted out.
Well, desperate times call for desperate measures. And if I were a Bernie supporter looking at the current polls, I guess I'd be desperate, too.

(7,627 posts)I am sure Hillary has a strong data operation. Things such as public records of past elections ( of course it does not say whom you voted for but if you voted) , analytics about maybe your neighborhood, your estimated tax bracket, etc... can be put together to make list of potential voters .

(1,728 posts)that's how they got it. I have been getting crap from BS and also had one of his volunteers come to my house. I have donated to Hillary but not Bernie. I have also gotten a ton of crap from Ted Cruz too. It' s just that time of the year.

Doesn't Bernie submit names and addresses to the FEC? Might be a public record.
