Bernie's statement RE: SC

"I congratulate Secretary Clinton on her victory in South Carolina," Sanders said in the statement, going on to name-check a few of his major supporters in the state. "I will always be especially thankful for the courageous support of state Reps. Terry Alexander, Justin Bamberg, Joe Neal, Wendell Gilliard, Cesar McKnight, Robert Williams and former Democratic Party Chairman Dick Harpootlian."
Sanders said that his campaign wasn't over despite a huge loss.
"Let me be clear on one thing tonight," Sanders' statement read. "This campaign is just beginning. We won a decisive victory in New Hampshire. She won a decisive victory in South Carolina. Now it’s on to Super Tuesday. In just three days, Democrats in 11 states will pick 10 times more pledged delegates on one day than were selected in the four early states so far in this campaign. Our grassroots political revolution is growing state by state, and we won't stop now."
“When we come together, and don't let people like Donald Trump try to divide us, we can create an economy that works for all of us and not just the top 1 percent," Sanders finished.

There's 865 delegates to be won or lost on Super Tuesday. Most states are awarding delegates proportionally. And for scale, California alone has 475 pledged delegates, but won't vote until June.

And it's not like we're gonna win Alabama in the general election.

This is going to be a long primary.

South Carolina, a state Democrats have no chance of winning in November. She'll do well in the South in the primary because of the AA vote, but it means nothing in the general. Let California, New York, Illinois, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Oregon, Washington, Massachusetts, Wisconsin, Ohio - in other words states that are Democratic strongholds or swing states - weigh in before a winner is crowned. The high-fiving is all a bit premature and very unseemly at this point in the process.

Who cares about these super conservative Southern states?

We have no chance of winning here, who cares who the conservative dems in this region prefer, they are irrelevant to the general election

If HRC landslides in MA, NY, OH, PA, CA, MI, MN, WI, etc - different story, lets see how the swing states vote

First, there was nowhere near as large an effort to get Clinton to give up after NH as we are seeing directed at Sanders after SC.

Thing is, NH has actually voted for the Democrat in the general election. We've won it in 5 of the 6 last presidential elections, with that loss being 1.3%.

SC has only voted for a Democrat in one general election since 1964. (In 1976)

We should not let a state we can not possibly win in the general be the one to choose our candidate.

Clinton did well. But it's going to be a long primary.

most of whom are minorities, and untold numbers of delegates because they come from the wrong states.

It's really too bad that nothing in the American political system correlates with this newfound "only states that vote Dems matter" philosophy. And I'm sure it's just a coincidence that the majority of the folks who hold this philosophy are Sanders supporters who now also hate the DNC, super delegates and apparently every thing else to do with how presidents are elected in America.

It's really too bad that nothing in the American political system correlates with this newfound "only states that vote Dems matter" philosophy

The formula for delegates at the convention takes in to account past general election results. Because of that, SC has fewer delegates per person than many other states. IIRC, only Texas has fewer per person.

So the DNC is saying MILLIONS of Democrats, most of who are minorities, count less.

I eagerly await your condemnation of the DNC and their abandonment of "one person, one vote".....many years ago.

Because at the end of the day, this election isn't just about primaries and horse races, it's about governance.

Sanders gets that, and that's why he's able to sincerely congratulate Clinton on her win in South Carolina, one moment in a long campaign that hopefully results in serving the public through good governance. And if Clinton does win, it's up to her to follow through and earn the support of all Dems and a national majority not just through campaign rhetoric, but through policies. So it very much is just the beginning.

Hillary won strongly
in a very conservative state that reliably votes Republican in presidential elections,
won narrowly and virtually tied in two tossup states, and
lost decisively in a state that usually goes Democratic.

It's too early to see if there's a pattern here, but you have to wonder.

But his decisive victory in New Hampshire was by 22% and about 50,000 votes.

Clinton's victory in South Carolina is by 50% and, with only 60% of the vote counted, by about 125,000 votes and growing.

As CNN's John King said just moments ago, "this isn't a victory, it's a thrashing".

That's the key element. We must get it into voters heads that this is NOT a fucking horse race! It's a MOVEMENT OF the people, FOR the people. It's not some sport where you cheer from the bleachers - you get down ON THE FIELD and throw your shoulder into it.

And before the Hillary Haters pile on, I want to flash Exhibit A, which I've proudly been sporting around for a few months now:

How can anyone not vote for him? I just REALLY like him and his messages. I believe he will do the right thing and be exactly what this country needs.
