Sanders rocks his supporters during OKC rally

Posted: Monday, February 29, 2016 12:01 am

By JULIANA KEEPING

It was as if a rock concert married a Thunder game and gave birth to a Bernie Sanders political rally in Oklahoma City.

U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders, of Vermont, elicited an electric response from an Oklahoma City crowd of about 6,000 people Sunday afternoon with his talk of taking down Wall Street's grip on both Congress and his political opponents, a higher minimum wage, criminal justice reform, equal pay for women and paid family medical leave.

No less than two Trump impersonations — "It'll be huge,' — drew laughs from Sanders' supporters at the Cox Convention Center, where one of the people who introduced the candidate was Wayne Coyne of The Flaming Lips.

Sanders was preaching to his choir. Oklahomans toted signs saying "Send me to college not War" and "Baristas for Bernie" in a show of support.

Sanders' remarks sought to quell doubt that he could take out Donald Trump if the New York businessman wins the Republican party nomination for president.

We're talking redder than red Oklahoma here Where last Wednesday Bernie had over 9000 at his rally in Tulsa and now this.
Yup lets turn this state purple or better yet lets go for Blue.

Fans of Trump often cite his habit of "telling it like it is" as a primary reason for their support. Trump has said he wants to institute a ban on Muslims from entering the U.S. and build a wall on the border of Mexico, for example.

Sanders had something to say about that.

"Bigotry is not 'telling it like it is,' " he said. "There would be nothing that would give me more pleasure than to defeat Donald Trump."

The line that got the biggest response during Sanders' speech, which lasted more than an hour, came when he said, "We will win because love Trumps hate."
