2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumPetraeus got a fine and a suspended term for a misdemeanor charge of mishandling classified data
This was where the fact pattern showed that that he deliberately lied to the FBI and actively sought to pass unclassified materials to his biographer.
Clinton has so far not been accused of anything remotely as egregious.

(12,336 posts)Maybe you just don't desire to vote for Hillary ....What he did was careless, he knew it was Wong and discounted security protocol believing he was above THAT...

(8,541 posts)I think that is kinda low. Yes I'm a Bernie supporter and I can be very critical of Hillary but that doesn't mean I'm not sincere. I haven't been here long but I have been very respectfully of other people's opinion and have no problems giving Hillary props when it's do. I also point out where I disagree with Bernie.
I'm not a hater.

(12,336 posts)I also won't needlessly give props to a repug, warmongering, hypocrite who knowingly took liberties for selfish sexual gains and risked national security for his pleasure. I won't go there to support him and ditch or trash talk a true liberal Democrat.

(8,541 posts)When you look at the facts of both cases IMHO it's obvious.
I can't figure out what she'd be charged with when comparing similar cases, the status of the rules while she served and previous SoS's. It just makes no sense that she'd be even remotely in danger of indictment. FFS Bush/Cheney are war criminals, not even a misdemeanor charge.

(2,329 posts)the retention of the information outside the government system, which is a felony. Which is one of the things Petreaus did.
The rest are misdemeanors related to improper handling of the information itself.
Improper storage, gross negligence
Now, if she destroyed anything that should have been turned over its a felony too

We already know she had classified information on her server. The IG has said some of it was classified TS/SCI at the time it was sent.

(8,541 posts)But was marked SBU/SENSITIVE SECURITY INFORMATION (SSI) at the time it was sent.

(9,992 posts)This is the same "But, but, but someone else did it!" BS that Hillarians are trying to use comparing the guy holding a "Bankers for Hillary" behind Bill Clinton bellowing into a bullhorn outside a polling station.
What Petraeus did was wrong. What Hillary did was wrong. What the signholder did was wrong. What Bill did was wrong.
Why do Clinton supporters think evidence of others' wrongdoing excuses the Clintons from theirs? It's baffling.

(45,055 posts)that's a different matter. I hold democrats to a higher standard because I hold myself and my actions to a higher standard.

(51,550 posts)He knew what was showing her was THE most top secret sensitive info there is. Then he lied about it to the FBI. And he was only hit with a misdemeanor and probation.

None of the emails Hillary sent or received was marked classified, let alone top secret, at the time. It was only classified after the fact in response to a right wing group's FOIA request for her emails. And it was crazy overclassification. One of the emails they decided to classify as secret was an email forwarding a newspaper article about drones, that was already available to millions of people. It is ridiculous. That is why Hillary has been saying the State Department should turn over all this stuff.
This is not a real threat to Hillary, as much as some here and in the GOP wish it were. The FBI is dotting every "i" and crossing every "t" because this is such a politically charged matter and the Benghazi Committee is watching every move. So, it will be thoroughly, mind-numbingly investigated.
Press Virginia
(2,329 posts)incidently held a TS/SCI, wasn't marked as classified either.
If she received information on say drone program operations or sat data, it's classified. The IG has already said some of the information was classified TS/SCI or higher at the time it was sent.
And Drone Program information is ALWAYS classified when produced.

She had SAP information on her server. That's higher than Top Secret.

(2,329 posts)And it doesn't matter if the NYTs ran a full expose on the drone program, complete with the blue prints, it's still a classified program subject to the same law as any other document.
She signed an NDA, it was her responsibility to abide by it

There are things about her that I do not care for, but this isn't one of them.

(99,710 posts)General Petraeus knowingly and deliberately downloaded classified information, including the names of clandestine operatives on at least several occasions, wrote it down in a written file, shared it with his paramour, and then lied to the FBI when asked about it. It was the latter act that was the most egregious.
BTW, the prosecutor who actually prosecuted General Petraeus wrote that his situation and Secretary Clinton's situation are dissimilar, ergo:
http://www.usatoday.com/story/opinion/2015/08/30/clinton-controversy-no-comparison-petraeus-column/71421242/
I do wonder about the motives of those who conflate the two.
