Those are all examples I just made up. Needless to say, they look ludicrous. Can you find real examples of people using this expression to describe debates and politics? How about one? Shouldn't be that hard, given how "common" it is.

...I've been following politics for 50 years now and have never, NOT ONCE, heard ANYONE refer to "throwing spears" when talking about politics or debates.

There are many colorful expressions that have been used when people discuss politics and debates, that much is true. But this expression is a new one. Gee I wonder why he came up with it.

The movie was about the second British invasion and the battle of Rorke's Drift. I didn't mention the entire war, only the defeat of the British ending their first invasion of the Zulu Kingdom. Isandlwana was a crushing defeat for the British by native peoples, mainly spears against state-of-the-art guns.
