The Car Crash Paul Ryan Should Have Avoided at the VP Debate

http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2012/10/13/the-car-crash-paul-ryan-should-have-avoided-at-the-vp-debate.html

Biden had responded with grace so uncommon
it could only be innate, suggesting that his usual bombast
may be at least partly a cover for the hurt that he must
still keenly feel four decades later.

It is one thing to argue over ideas and policy. It is another to bring up painful memories for someone in a debate to hope they are thrown off their game. Disgusting, really. Biden was not rude, Ryan was. Or at least incredibly stupid if he had no idea about Joe's past and I highly doubt that. These people know everything about their opponent going into a debate.

In true sociopathic style, he only wanted to win. For Ryan there was no difference in make a jab at some of Biden's gaffes in the past, and the death of his wife and child. He knew he was losing so he wanted to put Biden off by stabbing a knife in his heart. But what else should we expect from a follower of Ayn Rand?

He calls 30% of the American people 'takers,' just like his idol would call them 'parasites.' The philosophy of Rand is that it is evil to care about the poor or do anything to alleviate the pain of anyone in any situation. That all wealth and power should go to the faux 'job creators' who Rand called 'producers.'

I am not surprised at this from a follower of a serial killer groupie.

NO conceptual context within the parameters of what was being discussed ! It was obviously canned and rehearsed. I winced when I heard him start telling it.. all of us who know Joe's story did, I'm sure.

That S.O.B.

Badly done, GOP. Badly done, Ryan.

Did they do it on purpose to throw Biden off? Or are they just ignorant as well as assholes?

They prepared a set of "personal anecdotes" to humanize Romney and show off his compassion and generosity.

They know Joe Biden's history. This one they saved for last. It was beyond shameful.

His response was was so heartfelt. To be honest, I couldn't quite get the beginning of his full statement because, for the first time in the entire debate, he choked a little on the words. It wasn't until later that I understood he said, "In some situations all you can do is let people know that you have gotten through it, and if you got through it they will get through it too." But his pain was so real.

What amazes me the most is that Joe chose to absorb that blow with an open heart, to let that knife stab him, in order to respond appropriately both with his personal situation and then contrast to contrast with Romney. He found a way to pull that knife out and use it to expose the *real* Romney, by stating emphatically that "We all know that Gov. Romney is *personally* very generous. He is generous in *personal* situations. With people he *personally* knows." In this case, it was a car accident involving people from his church.

I think it was deliberate on the part of Ryan, and vile is the only appropriate word for it.

the next night - and I wish I could remember Letterman's exact words - Dave went on about how knowing what Biden had been through and how he had dealt with it told him all he needed to know about the man - and it was clear Letterman really admired Biden.

The whole thing could really back fire on Ryan. Not only does he look like an ass for bringing it up but people who didn't know the story might have the same reaction Letterman did.

I was watching very closely, especially to body language. I had the intense feeling that Ryan threw this story in, as rehearsed, hoping to throw our VP off balance. Instead, he came off as a total insensitive idiot. Do we really believe he just happened to run into this family, and discussed what happened? Besides, to use this as a story to humanize Romney is rather amusing. According to the story I read, Romney went to the family to bring Christmas presents. This family was also Mormon, so what Romney did was expected of him. I read what the father said..saying Romney brought a big stereo system for them, and how the father said the kids could not even open gifts..but it warmed their hearts.
I am glad Joe mopped the floor with the little twit. He deserved it, and more. Nasty little man. Too bad all that weight lifting does not help his brain grow smarter.

I heard him give a speech to families of killed soldiers recently in which he tells them about his loss of his wife and daughter. It's no secret. Paul Ryan did it deliberately.

"Even as Rep. Paul Ryan's fame grows nationally, he may be facing his toughest re-election challenge.

That's what Rob Zerban would like people to believe. Zerban on Wednesday announced results of a poll that seem to back him up.

Zerban, a Kenosha Democrat, is the only candidate to declare he's running against Republican Ryan in the November 2012 elections.

The poll by Democratic pollsters Fairbank, Maslin, Maullin, Metz & Associates is a survey of 405 likely voters in next November's elections, selected at random in the 1st Congressional District."
