PA-Sen: Fetterman Calls on DNC Chair to Resign - PoliticsPA

PA-Sen: Fetterman Calls on DNC Chair to Resign
Chris Calabrese - PoliticsPA
3/7/16

<snip>

Braddock Mayor and Democratic Senate hopeful John Fetterman has called on DNC chair Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz to resign from her post after she co-sponsored a bill that would gut the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau’s forthcoming payday loan regulations.

The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau was established by President Obama in 2011 and was the brainchild of now Senator Elizabeth Warren.

“These predatory lenders often target low-income families and communities of color like Braddock, taking advantage of those who are economically unstable,” Fetterman said in an email to supporters.

“Republicans in Congress are fighting back with a bill to gut a new set of pending rules at the CFPB on the payday lending industry — and if you’re not shocked yet, wait for it: they’ve found a friend in Congresswoman and Democratic National Committee Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz, who just signed on to co-sponsor the bill and is lobbying her Democratic colleagues to do the same,” he continued.

Finally, Fetterman called on his supporters to “Tell Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz: ‘You have abandoned the values of the Democratic Party and betrayed the most vulnerable members of society who depend on our party to fight for them. I urge you to resign from your position as DNC Chair immediately.’”

Some of us have been posting about this stuff for years; this has not one damned thing to do with Bernie.

And this is why that "Oh, you must vote for the "D"" rings so hollow, and this is why "vote for liberals locally and then they will advance" is a cynical canard - Debbie will stop 'em at the pass if she can.

send me another letter asking for a penny! Also let them know how almost THE WHOLE Democratic Party has abandoned us IMO and I will be leaving a Party that's done almost NOTHING for "we the people" and after this election I'M DONE! I'll sign up as NPA and that AIN'T NO LIE!

Almost every single place that you get news says this ISN'T a REAL threat from Democrats, well maybe some here won't follow through and leave as they claim. BUT I WILL! I will only give to certain candidates AND they're the ones you've named.

I've been fed up for such a long time, but the last straw was OBAMA & BIDEN throwing their support to McCarthy... I saw RED!

IF anyone has any doubt how far to the right THIS President IS and OUR Democratic Party HAS BEEN that I no longer recognize it! I MAY have to vote for a person I find so much against my values, but THIS WILL BE MY LAST TIME! And I HATE the fact that I may have to do it!

I don't trust her, I know she changes her message depending on WHO she speaking to, and I SIMPLY DON'T LIKE her! Someone's voice is their voice and Bernie is loud, but her voice just jolts me. I KNOW she can't do anything about it, my voice isn't loud, but it's an higher octave so that's unfair.

80. I've Been A Political Activist For A VERY LONG Time...
Tue Mar 8, 2016, 08:42 PM
Mar 2016

Before I was ever able to vote, my first real awareness of any political campaign was way back with JFK. I'm sure almost everyone here knows the Kennedy story which was fondly known as Camelot. Since that time I have NEVER supported a candidate that I've have had so much respect for.

If ever there was a time when this country NEEDED a person like him to lead this nation, IT IS NOW! Our country is falling apart and most of those that will follow us actually WANT & YEARN for something other than the STATUS QUO! And Bernie is the OFFERING this to them, YET it does seem that MONEY & LIES from those in power now are going to do EVERYTHING they can to make him go away.

To our peril Hillary may FINALLY get her crown! It makes me feel dirty and disgusted that this is the country WE ARE TOLD by our leaders we MUST HEEL TO!

Should she take the mantel I think she'll have a hollow victory and far too many of us have seen the POSSIBILITY of changing the tide and WE WILL NOT follow along with her!

I will most definitely leave the Democratic Party and I CAN NOT in good conscience find it within myself to get on board with her.

I too would LOVE to meet him and his family. This country probably has never seen a more honest politician in our lifetime, but when I shut my eyes I see this HUGE FIST coming at us as if they are dictating that we are their pawns. I've fought through many elections and I've learned how to lose, it happens and we move forward. THIS time because of how I feel about my children and my grand children, seeing Bernie lose will leave me devastated!

I was going to say the best I could "hope" for is that there will be a huge uprising by "we the people" to demand that Hillary follow through with the message she's stolen from Bernie! Unfortunately, I think the word HOPE doesn't hold much water with me. I have NO FAITH in her and I don't trust her. It's just that simple and I KNOW many others feel the same way I do.

There are 13 people in my immediate family, and NONE of us feel any enthusiasm for her and WE WILL NOT get on her band wagon! I know many here think "sour grapes" but the REAL sour grapes for us is HILLARY! I won't post the words of how we feel about her.

47. O'Malley Working Hard to Get Progressives Elected, Endorses John Fetterman for U.S. Senate
Mon Mar 7, 2016, 06:26 PM
Mar 2016

'Throughout my service as Mayor, as Governor and campaign for president, I never wavered on the need to pass comprehensive immigration reform.

I believe that our outdated and inhumane immigration laws no longer meet our economic needs, our national security imperatives, or most importantly, our values as a people.

I believe that we need to lead with the compassionate message and actions that have made us who we are: a nation of immigrants, bonded together by our diverse beliefs and traditions.

Immigration is what has made America, America.

And while much can be done by bold executive action, it is no substitute for Congressional action. We need leaders in Washington who will tirelessly stand up to the kind of hateful, misguided rhetoric we've seen thrown at the millions of New Americans and fight to forge consensus on an issue that has shaped this country.

I believe Braddock, Pennsylvania Mayor John Fetterman is that kind of leader, and that's why today, I am endorsing his campaign for U.S. Senate in Pennsylvania. He really needs our help, so click here to join his progressive campaign.

As Mayor of Braddock, PA for more than ten years, he's taken on the kinds of issues that are now at the forefront of the American conscience: income inequality, green jobs, access to health care and gun violence, to name just a few.

But John's wife Gisele has a remarkable story that is so emblematic of our experience as a country, and the work on immigration that lies before us. Like so many before her, she came to this country with her family from Brazil in search of a better life — fleeing a violent and unstable situation.

Her family overstayed their visa, and for years, she lived in the shadows undocumented while her mother cleaned houses for twelve hours a day. And while Gisele would eventually obtain her green card, it shouldn't have been that hard.

When John is asked about what he thought of Gisele and her family staying here illegally, I love his response: "I’m so glad she did."

It's time we approached the issue of immigration with humanity and an understanding of how we have all been shaped by it, directly or indirectly. Once again, we must remember that the enduring symbol of our nation isn't the barbed wire fence — it's the Statue of Liberty.

Please join me in supporting John's bid for the U.S. Senate. We need more leaders in Washington ready to embrace immigration reform, rather than running away from it.'

Thank you,
Martin O'Malley

Tue Mar 8, 2016, 03:38 AM

I'm wondering if the trip to Bernie over animal rights might have been a misdirection. Hillary is pulling out all the stops because she is worried IMO.Do you think there is a link between Simmons' endorsement, DWS's oddly overt action on the payday lending bill, and the fact that Simmons has a prepaid credit card business (Rushcard) that seems closely linked to the cash advance industry (aka payday lenders)

See:
https://www.rushcard.com

And http://banktalk.org/2012/01/31/rush-card-to-add-cash-advance

Rush Card To Add Cash Advance
January 31, 2012
According to a report published yesterday, Rush Card owner Russell Simmons says his prepaid debit card will soon have a cash advance feature.

The advance will give customers who have enrolled their card in direct deposit the ability to draw cash two days ahead of their next scheduled paycheck or payment.

A spokesperson from Rush says that the service is free of a fee. Rush is going to extend the payment solely on the faith that customers with an existing direct deposit enrollment will have another coming in 48 hours.

The Rush Card is issued by Bancorp Bank. Since customer service at Rush only answers questions if you have an existing card, it is not possible to know the origin of this advance. It may be Bancorp, a different bank, or a non-bank financial institution.

Fine with removing DWS.. Even if it is only out of your devotion to Sanders that she's become the Pariah, the points about her supporting Republicans in Florida and this bill is reason enough. I'm not so blind in my support that I can't see it.

NOW, on to the BIG question.

This candidate, running for Senate.. who has endorsed Bernie Sanders.. and is of similar positions of Bernie.. Where's his support??

He's polling in last place in the Senate Primary in PA. Where is Sanders or his campaign helping this man.. who would be CRUCIAL to making a Sanders agenda work.. to help this man get elected??

I'm a Hillary supporter and I'VE donated to him 3 times this year.. granted small amounts (i'm definitely not a 1%er).

Really, you all want a President like Bernie Sanders, you all need to start getting off of your duffs and start supporting more than JUST Bernie. Without a Congress that's at least partially in his corner, where's the path to making his agenda happen??

He's on this list!
