Donors to Bernie Sanders: NEVER SURRENDER

Last edited Tue Mar 8, 2016, 09:13 AM - Edit history (1)

Sanders' wealthiest contributors don't care much about the delegate deficit. What matters to them is the senator's ability to reshape the Democratic Party agenda. Forget about the Southern losses, the struggles with African-American voters and the big delegate deficit. Bernie Sanders’ wealthiest donors want him to continue fighting on, all the way to the July Democratic convention. That won’t come as welcome news to the Clinton campaign and its allies, who point to the nearly insurmountable delegate lead Hillary Clinton has amassed – they’d like to begin the pivot to the general election. But the relatively small group of pro-Sanders millionaires doesn’t care. In their view, it’s crazy to concede now that the Vermont senator is beginning to string together wins in places as varied as Maine, Colorado and Oklahoma.

"What people need to understand is that Bernie started off as an unknown. As more and more people learn about him he gets more and more converts. Just look at the national graph of likely Bernie voters vs Clinton voters. Momentum is with Bernie and against Hillary. Now they are just about even. Soon Bernie will surpass Hillary," said Ben Cohen, the millionaire co-founder of Ben & Jerry's ice cream. "Clearly the mood of the country for Republicans, Democrats and Independents is anti-the-Washington establishment. That bodes well for Bernie and quite poorly for Hillary."

The wealthy Sanders supporters who have given the maximum $2,700 donation for the primary election aren’t necessarily focused on the senator’s chances of winning the nomination. Rather, like the small donors who provide 70 percent of his cash, they’re motivated by his message on economic inequality and poverty and see as playing an important role in remaking the presidential conversation – and the Democratic Party going forward.

"I think he's got to stay in it. I think in his position right now he's shaped the entire conversation. The entire agenda of the 2016 Democratic agenda," said Meredith Burak, a former executive at Merrill Lynch and Bank of America, said.

"I certainly hope that he continues because I think he is making a significant contribution to the rejuvenation of the Democratic Party," said Deborah Sagner, a New Jersey real estate executive who has maxed out contributions to Sanders. Sagner was an early supporter of President Barack Obama in 2008 and raised money for the effort to get Sen. Elizabeth Warren to run for president before backing Sanders.

I don't know what is going to happen, but Hillary will not move a millimeter to the left, the Democratic Party will continue oozing, greased by corporate money and the Third Way, to the right, if Hillary is the nominee. I don't know that the Party can be re-shaped.

I do know that my principles and conscience cannot be "re-shaped".

The stronger the media bias and the Clinton machine smears, and the more we need to give to counteract them. Pretty simple.

rally people behind any agenda he would want to push. Once the facts get exposed in the general election, Bernie should answer just as he did when asked about Clinton's honesty, - the American people will decide. The corporate hacks have constantly tried to use him to provide cover for the corruption. While propping up a corrupt system it hurts the ability to rally people to do something about it.

I can understand why some might "take his cookies and go home", because Clinton continues to misrepresent Sanders' positions. Her latest (and probably most damaging) was Clinton's lie about Sanders not voting for the auto bailout. What a lie. Disgusting. She's on very shaky ground with many progressives.

I was one who refused to vote for the very dishonest democratic establishment in 1968, leading to Nixon winning in 1968. I couldn't bring myself to vote for corruption. A real possibility for me again this year.

You KNOW he has, because at every turn, his opposition is trying to pry it from the hands of the American public.

I don't know how many people I've passed on the streets when I'm out there for Bernie who are from foreign countries who say they WISH they could vote for him. This, in a diverse Pennsylvania environment says much about his entire appeal as a foreign leader.

That's what we need and that's what we need to keep showing others.

I brought breakfast to the local headquarters Saturday. One local store threw in 36 bagels when they heard it was for Bernie's campaign.

We voted for Bernie this morning...my wife was voter #1 and I was #2. When I got to work I talked to a conservative colleague who always votes for the Reptiles. He's really embarrassed about Der Trumpenfuhrer and said some good things about Bernie.

I made my largest contribution to date right after the Super Tuesday primaries. Although I certainly don't count as a "wealthy" donor, I can afford considerably more than the $27 average and I will continue to contribute to the Sanders campaign. I want him at the convention, regardless of how many delegates he has compared to HRC.

People if Michigan: you gotta realize Bernie's stance was against the corruption of Wall Street, and this is only off memory so people can correct me if I'm wrong, but by putting the bank bailout into the same bill with the auto bailout, our "friends" on the right were attempting to, in this person's opinion, purport something along the lines of "If you want us to bail out those damn Unionized employees, then we are going to bail out the banks too!" as a negotiation tactic to get what they wanted. Pubs are usually (not always but most of the time) glad to have the Union movement eroded in any way possible. If they could have gotten away with it politically, they would have gladly flushed all those jobs represented by the UAW and other Unions down the drain. However, that's when the voice of the people took over and people started to stand up and fight back...holding our elected officials accountable through this process of letting them know we are going to stand up and band together as voters collectively is really just an extension of the Union movement, and frankly as American as apple pie, and a great way to exercise our right to freedom of association. It's all about life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, so people "feelin' the Bern" in Michigan gotta stand up, fight back, and get a hold of the one two three, five or however many people in your lives that you know well enough to personally influence in your day to day life and ask them to show up and vote for our best candidate today. The final vote will then show a win for the candidate who speaks for regular people and does not take campaign donations from shadow PAC money. That fact alone should motivate all of us regular folks to use our freedom of association and do our own little mini-campaigns on behalf of Sanders, every vote counts!!! Power to the little people, show no fear! The Lilliputians banded together and tied Gulliver up. In today's modern world, no giant can untie the light of truth and transparency when it is shined in the direction of things that need to be corrected and made fair so EVERYONE has a fair shot at standing up for themselves and bein' free to live their own individual version of the American Dream...end of motivational happy rant, everyone have a great day!

a conversation that is uncomfortable for some in the party.

It is time to shine a light on corporatism and Sanders is the only one who seems willing to do so.

We the people deserve a voice. Corporate persons have plenty of voices, including one of the candidates.

Let it play out. One will be the nominee and one will not, it has not been decided yet, regardless of what some think.

The coronation may still happen, but there will at least be someone speaking for the common folk, you know, the ones who are not in the 1%.

we've already won. Bernie has raised the consciousness of people. He's proof that politics can be a positive force for change. He demonstrates that integrity empathy and honesty can still exist in politics. That's a hopeful message that people crave.

He's created a powerful movement, especially among young people. Win or not, this movement, with Bernie's leadership is charging forward.

Whatever the final outcome, Bernie Sanders candidacy has been probably the best thing that has happened to the Democratic party in years. The entire system really needs to be blown up. We need a true progressive agenda in order to be able to get the middle class back and to pull people out of poverty. His economic message is fantastic and his ideas about criminal justice reform. He better stay in it until the very end and have a big role at the convention. If Hillary wins the nomination and wins the general, I'd love for Bernie to be a part of her administration as Head of Labor or Treasury, something where he can have major impact. He has an uphill climb to get the nomination, but its not over til its over. As an undecided voter, his message is definitely working because I went from a solid Hillary supporter to being undecided.
