2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumWhat are your thoughts on voters who are 'undecided' at this late point?
Since they will be the ones asking the questions at tonight's town hall (selected by our 'friends' at Gallup). I tend to think that anybody who is still undecided is 1) low information 2) an idiot or 3) an attention seeker.

(12,287 posts)They are low info idiots. I know many of them and I never encourage them to vote.
CrispyQ
(36,527 posts)1) They want attention.
2) They are one of those voters that I'll never understand, the voter who wants to vote for the winner.

(879 posts)that most of them probably won't vote.

(1,560 posts)Most low-info people will just stay home and not even bother, but since "the undecideds" have become the darlings of the media over the years, i definitely think its an ego boost kind of thing for some people to say that their undecided. They interviewed a guy from Nevada on CNN this morning who said if he doesn't get "specifics" in the next two debates, he'll just vote based on his gut. Good grief.

(1,134 posts)that's just media tripe to maintain horserace. BO is focused on ground game and registered voters.

(39,329 posts)I wonder why the media obsesses on that so much
Jersey Devil
(9,875 posts)Yeah, I don't get it either. They are so far apart on the issues that you would think that even the most politically disinterested and apathetic would at least have a strong opinion on at least one of the major issues - which leads to another question - Why exactly are preople who are so uninformed and apathetic about politics willing to go through Gallup's wringer to get into the debate audience?
So they can be on TV of course.

(15,596 posts)so that we have more time to decide and things? I get so confused
and nervous and just go all back and forth every time I see a new ad
or hear somebody say some different facts. Sometimes, when I go
to the store and see like all the different cereals? And all the colors
and words on the boxes? I start to get dizzy and there's a bunch of butterflies
flickering around my head and I have to catch myself and lay down on the
floor for a while. And cereal isn't half as important as nuclear war. This morning
it took me four hours to decide what underpants to put on. So, can we delay
the election a few months so I can hear more things and ads and look into
things a little more and get more facts and things? Thank you."

PoliticalBiker
(328 posts)If you don't know who you are voting for by now, you haven't been paying attention
The importance of this election dictates you do some homework and understand what it is you are voting for.
If you are undecided now, you want someone else to decide for you who to vote for or like has been stated in this thread, you want to vote for the *winner*
Choosing who is going to lead this country is too important. It is the responsibility of the voter to make an effort to understand what you are voting for and how it will affect you.

(340 posts)clueless.
for me it all boils down to a lot of ungrateful people who have no understanding as to what the President has accomplished.
i'm especially disappointed with undecideds or Romney supporters in MI, PA, and Ohio. lets see here:
One man said "Let Detroit Go Bankrupt"
The other went to bat for the Auto Industry in the face of extreme criticism and backlash which led to the industry and so many jobs being saved.
Not sure what is so damn difficult about figuring out who is working for you.

(32,082 posts)I am willing to bet 95% or more are decided but they want to be on tv in front of tens of millions.

(5,695 posts)How any thinking American cannot tell the difference between Obama and Romney is inconceivable. Then again, a country that serves up Toddlers and Tiaras, Honey Boo Boo, Keeping up with the Kardashians, Real Housewives, and Snooki, has to have a good sized contingent of morons.

(4,818 posts)I had mine in a reverse order than you...still great minds think alike (you're nicer about it than I was (and am))
After 20+ years reading about the "Undecided voters" and their siren-like calls that get everyone in a tizzy I've come to realize the following.
The "Undecided Voter" is one of three things (or a sickening miasma of various parts of these things):
1) He/She clearly did not get enough attention as a child, and now seeks it like an addict seeks a fix.
"Pay attention to me!!! My opinion matters!! Woo me!!! I am relevant!!!!!! I am not going to be ignored!!!!!
2) He/She is actually a member of a political party, but is too craven to admit it. This stems from terminal pseudo-contrarian hipness disease (I'm disappointed in politician "x;" they didn't give me the sparklepony they promised me!) or the oh-so tiresome (REALLY TIRESOME) cliched, trite "all politicians are crap" line. The reality is they actually are associated with a party in their own minds, but do not have the testicular or ovarian fortitude to admit that they've been lying to themselves in their bid to "follow the beat of their own drum."
3) They are Low Information Voters. In this day and age, ignorance is not only NOT an excuse, it is civic crime of negligence the punishment for which should be to be holed up in the cramped room with Bachman, Coulter, Boehner, Cantor, and McConnell for the duration of the election season. Seriously-- people who "want to know more" before they make a decision should be a) publicly ridiculed b) shunned c) ignored. They are clearly a waste as a carbon-based life-form.
How do we rid ourselves of the Undecided Voters? Stop feeding them. In the end, this would require taking the Media, whose skin is thinner than that of an anorexic grape, to task for enabling these drains on society.
BTW-- Where is Lou Pearlman (sp?) when you need him...there's obviously a boyband member he missed who is now running for VP (that goddawful pic of Ryan, hand outstretched with a frownyface should be exhibit number 1 in the case against the Romney/Ryan ticket. It makes Dukakis in the tank look like the Sands of frikkin Iwo Jima.)
CrispyQ
(36,527 posts)& one side was plastered with Kerry signs/buttons/hat/tee & the other side was Bush. His costume? An undecided voter.
While it's a clever idea, I would never put anything repub on my person. Never.

(1,568 posts)After 3 decades plus of intense study of political science, I know that undecideds, AKA independents are really a myth. Everybody LEANS one way or the other. Some people just like to be courted by the candidates and parties. It bothers me that Gallop has chosen these "so-called" undecideds!
