2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumTrump And Social Security....
Trump has been saying that he will save Social Security. Has he given any indication as to how he will do that? What's beginning to worry me is that he is saying some things that have appeal to Dems and even the millennials.
I'm just listening to this Ben Carson endorsement of Trump and the press conference that followed. Some of the things that they are saying are contrary to the establishment Repug Party traditional stands. This is most probably why the establishment Repug Party wants to dump Trump. However, if they embrace Trump and allow him to be the Party nominee - it appears that Trump will have an impact on changing the Repug Party and tacking them more to the center than far right and grabbing independents and disenchanted Dems.
Both Trump and Carson took some shots at Hillary in this press conference - and some of the points that they made appear that they could have an impact on Hillary if she is the nominee. Trump being self-funding and saying he will not be bought by the money donors - will haunt Hillary - as it is now with Bernie not taking money from the Pac's, 1%, etc. Trump on trade policy and his negotiation skills also will hurt her in comparison.
I'm sorry - but Hillary to me (especially after her last debate performance) is a flawed candidate in my opinion. If she winds up the Dem nominee she might well lose to Trump.
I got to think that Bernie is the only one that can take on Trump and win.

(25,237 posts)given the state of the electorate these days they tend to go along with what they hear today and not consider a change in positions.
Think of it this way - Bernie is pulling Hillary to the left and forcing her to adopt some very Progressive stands. If Hillary wins the nomination - it has already been predicted that she will tack back to center right.
I'm just saying that Trump now has turned the Repug Party upside down and has some positions right now that catch the ear of Independents and some frustrated Dems. If the Repug Party wind up embracing Trump as their nominee - he will be a formidable opponent to Hillary is she is the Dem nominee.
I believe Bernie is better positioned to pull those Independents and frustrated Dems his way and retain them for the Dems. I really believe he is better positioned to beat any of the Repugs that wind up as their nominee and especially better positioned to beat Trump.

(16,371 posts)He's also taking anti free trade, pro protectionist trade policy positions, to bring back manufacturing, which is far more appealing to working and middle class voters than Hillary's pablum.
I'm afraid that he will quickly make peace with the billionaires and global corporations that are working hard to buy the election. He's one of them to some extent. And fascism is historically very very good for business. Of course the party will go along as soon as he seals the deals with their donors.

(3,017 posts)Virtually everybody who posted there was a True Believer. They were hard core Evangelicals, I think much more so than for any of the other Republican candidates. A lot of them expressed complete contempt for the vulgarity of Donald Trump and I would expect that many of them will feel very betrayed that Carson is endorsing Trump.
