2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumAnyone see a problem with MSNBC having a townhall for just Hillary Mon night?
Yes, they did a townhall for Bernie some time ago where Chris Mathews was yelling over him for the first 15 min telling him that he couldn't get anything done.
I don't feel that Chris Mathews will treat Hillary the same, and it's incredible timing to have one with just her the night before the primary in 5 states.

(1,508 posts)however I'm sure what I think won't be taken into account. This is how the corporate media tries to throw an election in favor of the candidate they know will do the least to curtail their greed. This nation is on auto pilot or asleep, I'm not sure which one. Somebody should be yelling foul to the top of their lungs, not because they are a Bernie supporter but because it is so obvious they are trying to influence low information voters right before the next super Tuesday.

I can see a lot of viewers getting bored.
Maybe Bernie could get something going on an alternate network. Maybe buy 30 minutes like Obama did. I'd also put some ads on MSNBC during her townhall if the spots are not all sold.
Or just play the video of the end of the Florida debate.

(47,803 posts)Further down, it looks like there may be something with Bernie that night too.
But still, if they replay tweety's Bernie bashing interview and Tweety does one of his smoochie smoochie interviews with Clinton....
But overall, I'd say outrage regarding the MSM is genuine. They've been doing everything they can from the beginning to marginalize Bernie,

(114,658 posts)I think MSNBC is one of the networks that helped make Sanders better known because they booked him regularly and gave him full segments when the big news networks ignored him until last year.
While I do think the network has shifted rightward in the past year, I don't see it as being pro-Hillary and anti-Sanders as some have been complaining. I see it more as 22/24 TrumpthisTrumpthatTrumpTrumpTrump
.with a huge helping of Benghazi, emails, on the side.
Perhaps I like Sanders' common sense answers so much that I see all of his appearances as being to his advantage and not as the threat some claim.
Armstead
(47,803 posts)Unfortunately to achieve that they need a combination of sports, circus (Trump) and a wallowing in conventional wisdom.
The conventional wisdom part is what keeps the focus narrow, which excludes people like Bernie who are slightly left of center. Right of center is okay though.

The hypocrisy of Hillary supporters is comical, given that if Bernie got a free hour the night before a primary they'd be screaming bloody murder.

(9 posts)It's outrageous she should be in jail for her military coups. Does Honduras or Berta Baceres ring any bells? Hillary and her supporters lack the ability to take criticism. Her supporters blind themselves to the obvious media bias for her. A Bernie-bashing article is written every hour, while Hillary, the weakest candidate this cycle (Jeb Bush aside), is propped up as some kind of competent leader instead of the neocon war machine that she is.

(7,865 posts)Honestly this kind of a cable news extended commercial will only attract the kind of people that would want to vote for the Hill in the first place.
Isn't it interesting the level to which cable news is bending and flexing to give the Hill every possible advantage in the election. I cannot recall an election that had such lop sided coverage of one viable candidate over the other. It is just so obvious and pathetic.

(11,945 posts)Comcast owns MSNBC and a host of other media outlets.
Hillary gets more money from telecom lobbyists than all other candidates combined.
At $357,768, Hillary Clintons campaign has received the most money of any of her competitors from telecommunications lobbyists, according to data from Opensecrets.org and highlighted this week by CutCableToday.com. In fact, Clinton takes in more money from Big Cable than all of the other presidential candidates combined. Her telecom money far outstrips that of any of her rivals.
<snip>
However, there might be reason for cable giants to hope, at least if Hillary plans to take any tips from her husband, former President Bill Clinton. Twenty years ago, he signed the 1996 Telecommunications Act, which took big steps to deregulate the industry.
Last June, Comcast executive vice president David Cohen hosted a $2,700-a-plate fundraiser for Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, held at his home in Philadelphia.

I don't even tune in anymore. CNN seems biased as well but there are occasional flashes of light that manage to make it through the haze every so often.
As a matter of fact, it seems like Faux is sort of drifting into the Reality Universe once in a while as well, though I really don't have the money to buy gold.
MSNBC? They are done.
