Clintons, Contras and Cocaine (Jeffrey St. Clair-Alexander Cockburn March 11, 2016 CounterPunch)

This article focuses on Jackson Stephens and his son Warren longtime Clinton donors/supporters.

"Just as the BCCI trail heads back towards Arkansas and a prime cash register for the Clintons, so too does a long-running and explosive scandal within the state, involving money-laundering, drug-running and support for right-wing insurgents backed by the CIA."

http://www.counterpunch.org/2016/03/11/clintons-contras-and-cocaine

We have discussed BCCI for many years here-it's still a vital topic, isn't it?

liberal message board. Conspiracy, there I said it. The Conservatives of our Party don't like to discuss Conspiracies because they prefer to believe their Authoritarian leaders are taking good care of them and anyone dare says different gets a CT burned in their forehead.

But Conspiracies do happen, in fact they are everywhere in politics. And while I don't believe that all of the Wealthy 1% meet and conspire, I do believe they all want more money. And now that the free wealth from natural resources is drying up, they have turned to "acquiring" wealth from others (read stealing). The Iraq War was a great tool to steal wealth from the taxpayers and give it to the wealthy that we bought war materials from. And now some, even Democrats, want to cut SS to pay the debts run up by the War. Oh and we can't forget the greatest theft in history (at least one of them). It was called a Banking Crisis. After all the smoke and mirrors, the 99% were left $5,000,000,000,000 short. No one even flinched. Democrats and Republicons reached across the isle and said good job. So to be clear, this is the business model used. The banksters gambled with each other and lost a lot of wealth. Then they go to our government, those bastards that are supposed to be our representatives and ask for a handout. A $5 trillion dollar hand out. And what did our government do? Bowed and scraped before the mighty Citibank and Goldman-Sachs and gave them a check written on our children's future. Millions of the 99% lost their homes. If it were a natural disaster, they would get help from the government. But our government said "too bad", and has done little to nothing to stop this from happening again.

So did the banksters conspire to steal our money? Well it certainly wasn't a fracking accident.

58. Senator Diane Feinstein's Secret Meeting between Barack and Hillary...VP Slot?
Sun Mar 20, 2016, 04:11 PM
Mar 2016

Remember the speculation on DU about this "Secret Meeting" and whether a deal had been made for Hillary as VP. Feinstein and Schumer seemed to be suggesting this, even thought one report says that Hillary requested the meeting. It was big news as to why they tried to keep it secret. But, after that meeting she did eventually get the SOS position. One could think that an agreement was made at that meeting without being a conspiracy theorist. )

Obama, Clinton Ditch Press for Secret Meeting
By Kate Snow-- ABC News
June 6, 2008

------------

A stealthy meeting Thursday night between former presidential rivals Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton is no longer a secret, but what they discussed — and whether they said the words "vice president" — remains a mystery.

Obama, D-Ill., returned to his Chicago home early this morning, hours after slipping away from his press entourage for a clandestine meeting with Clinton in Washington, D.C.

Clinton, D-N.Y., also eluded the press staked out in front of her Washington mansion to meet with Obama at the home of Sen. Dianne Feinstein.

Feinstein, D-Calif., an early Clinton supporter who has publicly made the case for an Obama-Clinton ticket, told reporters outside the Senate chamber Friday that the meeting took began at about 9 p.m. ET and lasted an hour.

Feinstein said Clinton called her "sometime in the late afternoon" Thursday to set up the meeting and both came with one staffer, but the conversation was just between the two of them in the living room of her Washington home. "There were no press, no staff. They had one person from each campaign that was in my study separately and I guess the security people outside," Feinstein said.

In a rare joint statement Thursday night, the two Democrats said only, "Senator Clinton and Senator Obama met tonight and had a productive discussion about the important work that needs to be done to succeed in November."

Robert Gibbs, Obama's campaign communications director, confirmed the meeting took place, but said, "I don't have details of the substance of the meeting."

Sen. Charles Schumer, Clinton's New York colleague and a strong backer, told "Good Morning America" Friday that the secret meeting was not about the vice presidential slot and instead was "a good … first step in terms of uniting the party."

Schumer made it clear, however, that Clinton is willing to become Obama's veep and at one point he said, "I urge Sen. Obama to consider her very seriously."

"But on the other hand if he chooses someone else, she'll work just as hard for the party in November," Schumer said.

Nomination Fight Ends, Veepstakes Begins

Obama has said that he won't make a quick decision on his running mate.

Asked on Thursday if there was any possibility that he'd pick Clinton as his running mate, Obama said, "I have said before that Senator Clinton would be on anybody's short list. She is an extraordinary talent and a major leader in her party as she showed during this campaign. But I am not going to discuss who is being considered, how they're being considered. We're just not gonna talk about this anymore."

"He'll take his time," Schumer said. "He said to some of us, it's better to do it right than to do it quickly."

Schumer also defended Clinton against criticism that she should have promptly conceded on Tuesday night when Obama won the necessary number of delegates to lock up the Democratic presidential
nomination.

Fri Mar 11, 2016, 06:58 PM
Mar 2016

Same for his attorney, Hillary R. Clinton, who would become a board member at Walmart.

But few know the story about BCCI IN THE UNITED STATES. CIA director Bob Gates called it, "the Bank of Crooks and Criminals International."

Maybe that's why Wonder Woman endorsed HRC for President. Her husband Robert Altman was BCCI frontman Clark Clifford's No.1. Until the S&Ls went under, BCCI was the largest bank scam in history with the usual crony capitalism, CIA, narcotrafficers, Mafia, GOP, DEM, etc...

Wonder Woman Isn`t Much Help In BCCI Scandal

August 04, 1991|By Michael Kilian, Chicago Tribune.

WASHINGTON — If you ever wondered what happened to Wonder Woman, a.k.a. Lynda Carter, the statuesque actress whose comic-bookesque ``Wonder Woman`` TV series ran from 1976 to 1979, well, she later did a couple of miniseries and some cosmetics commercials and promotions. But mostly she married (in 1984) hot-shot Washington lawyer Robert Altman, junior partner and protege of Clark Clifford, longtime lobbyist/lawyer, presidential confidant and former defense secretary.

While her husband was knocking down the big bucks, setting her up in a fabulous estate in suburban Potomac, Md., with a reported 16 bathrooms, Carter hit the Washington social scene in as big a way as possible, lending her highly visible presence to ballet balls and disease-fighting charity functions and generally carrying on more like a grande dame than a comic book super hero.

According to Friday`s Washington Post, she`s been such a whiz at socializing that her circle of friends now includes Blaine Trump, the much-photographed wife of Donald Trump`s even less-successful younger brother, Robert; defrocked former House Speaker Jim Wright and his wife, Betty; the socially indefatigable Honey Skinner, wife of Illinoisan and Transportation Secretary Sam Skinner; tennis stars Chris Evert and Martina Navratilova, and, yes, Dorothy Bush LeBlond, daughter of President and Mrs. Bush.

Not bad for a woman who used to go around in a skin-tight strapless outfit and use magic bracelets to help corral bad guys.

Trouble is, husband Robert and his boss, Clifford, are finding themselves all over the newspapers these days as major players with the capital`s First American Bankshares Inc., a bank holding company that turns out to have been connected with the notorious Bank of Credit and Commerce International. With a client list that allegedly includes some of the world`s least savory terrorists and drug dealers, BCCI has not only won the sobriquet ``sleaziest bank in the world`` but also was hit with indictments in New York charging bribery and fraud.

Altman, although president of First American, says he had no knowledge of any deep connection with BCCI, but is said to be preparing legal paperwork in anticipation of an investigation by federal prosecutors and Federal Reserve Board regulators.

On October 8, 1987, Tommy Baker, a former Arkansas State Police officer and longtime friend of Buddy Young, says he happened to be passing Reed’s hangar when a powerful gust of wind blew the door open, revealing a plane. Baker says he thought the plane looked “suspicious” and so called his pal Young at the Governor’s mansion. Young later claimed in testimony that he called the registration number on the plane into the National Crime Information Center to see if a plane with that number had been stolen, found no record of this and so instructed Baker to check if the plane’s markings had been changed, a common practice of plane thieves (also a routine practice at Mena and in North’s Project Donation). Baker established that they had been, and by October 21 the two had turned the case over to the F.B.I.

Below is another case illustrating that context, a 1998 New York Times article focused on the "fabulous" Liz Robbins and her former ABC employed husband that hosted Bill and Hillary's wedding among other things. Review that wedding guest list too. Uh huh!

25. the "boys on the tracks case''
Sun Mar 13, 2016, 05:00 PM
Mar 2016

Arkansas State Medical Examiner Fahmy Malak, appointed by Gov. Bill Clinton, quickly ruled the boys' deaths "accidental," saying they were unconscious or in a deep sleep as a result of smoking marijuana.

The State medical examiner concluded they had smoked the equivalent of 20 marijuana cigarettes. He determined that Kevin and Don had been in a deep sleep induced by the drug and had never heard the oncoming train. He ruled their death an accident. Don and Kevin’s parents would not accept the medical examiner’s conclusion. Kevin’s father Larry hired a private investigator to find out what really happened:

http://unsolved.com/archives/don-henry-kevin-ives

Five months after their sons were killed, the boys’ parents held a press conference. They hoped to force the authorities to re-open the investigation. The day after their press conference, the investigation was officially re-opened. Newly appointed Prosecutor Richard Garrett had the boys’ bodies exhumed for a second autopsy. The doctor concluded that, together, the boys had smoked, not 20, but between one and three marijuana cigarettes. He also found evidence that one boy was already dead, and one unconscious, before the train ever hit them. A grand jury reversed the medical examiner’s original finding of accidental death and officially ruled the boys’ deaths were “probable homicides.”

The CIA/MSM Contra-Cocaine Cover-up

Exclusive: With Hollywood set to release a movie about the Contra-cocaine scandal and the destruction of journalist Gary Webb, an internal CIA report has surfaced showing how the spy agency manipulated the mainstream media’s coverage to disparage Webb and contain the scandal, reports Robert Parry.

By Robert Parry
ConsortiumNews, September 26, 2014

In 1996 as major U.S. news outlets disparaged the Nicaraguan Contra-cocaine story and destroyed the career of investigative reporter Gary Webb for reviving it the CIA marveled at the success of its public-relations team guiding the mainstream media’s hostility toward both the story and Webb, according to a newly released internal report.

Entitled “Managing a Nightmare: CIA Public Affairs and the Drug Conspiracy Story,” the six-page report describes the CIA’s damage control after Webb’s “Dark Alliance” series was published in the San Jose Mercury-News in August 1996. Webb had resurrected disclosures from the 1980s about the CIA-backed Contras collaborating with cocaine traffickers as the Reagan administration worked to conceal the crimes.

SNIP...

Besides tracing the evidence of Contra-drug trafficking through the decade-long Contra war, the inspector general interviewed senior CIA officers who acknowledged that they were aware of the Contra-drug problem but didn’t want its exposure to undermine the struggle to overthrow Nicaragua’s Sandinista government.

According to Hitz, the CIA had “one overriding priority: to oust the Sandinista government. . . . [CIA officers] were determined that the various difficulties they encountered not be allowed to prevent effective implementation of the Contra program.” One CIA field officer explained, “The focus was to get the job done, get the support and win the war.”

Hitz also recounted complaints from CIA analysts that CIA operations officers handling the Contras hid evidence of Contra-drug trafficking even from the CIA’s analysts.

Because of the withheld evidence, the CIA analysts incorrectly concluded in the mid-1980s that “only a handful of Contras might have been involved in drug trafficking.” That false assessment was passed on to Congress and to major news organizations, serving as an important basis for denouncing Gary Webb and his “Dark Alliance” series in 1996.

Although Hitz’s report was an extraordinary admission of institutional guilt by the CIA, it went almost unnoticed by major U.S. news outlets. By fall 1998, the U.S. mainstream media was obsessed with President Bill Clinton’s Monica Lewinsky sex scandal. So, few readers of major U.S. newspapers saw much about the CIA’s inspector general admitting that America’s premier spy agency had collaborated with and protected cocaine traffickers.

and there is no doubt in my mind that Clinton was ordered to not interfere with Bush's CIA operations.

Also - just to keep things straight, Jackson Stephens was Poppy Bush's longtime ally. Clinton's roles were always peripheral to that partnership. Bush NEEDED to lose in Nov 1992 because of the expected release of the BCCI report in Dec 1992, so it was Jackson Stephens who bankrolled Clinton's primary and Poppy Bush was glad to lose so he could be off the hook.

I believe it was Pat Robertson that pushed a book and companion piece VHS documentary on Mena back in the early 90's.

I'm not sure what's more entertaining. Those who think this is "new" fodder from the GOP fever swamp, or those that heard about it years ago, thought it was BS, but have now "evolved" to the point where they believe it's relevant because it might help Bernie in some way.
