Can someone explain why CA, NY, PA, & NJ vote so late in the primary season

NY - 4/19
PA - 4/26
WI - 4/5
CA, NJ, - 6/7

Aren't these states at least as important as Nevada, SC, and Kansas? Why does the south and midwest get to decide who the nominee is.

2. The primaries were frontloaded with the southern states where Hillary was projected to do well...

so what else is new? Which is why I keep telling people, don't lose hope, this schedule was primed for Hillary to come out gangbusters, Bernie did not suffer huge losses which speaks loudly & clearly, and NOW things are about to take a turn for the better for Bernie.

to get interesting.

15. He's making history in more ways than one, but then, that's always been our Bernie, leading the way.

17. Schedule has been like this long before HILLARY

I too would like more liberal states to vote earlier. CA has been among the lady for as long as I remember

18. Oh Puleese

I've been a voter in PA since 1976. I've never voted in a primary that meant anything. It's always decided long before PA votes. It has nothing to do with Hillary.

3. Because those were the last coins picked.

They put all 50 state commemorative coins into an Abe Lincoln top hat and DWS picked. Those coins were picked last.

4. Small states

want to be represented in the primary selection. If the huge states went first, the primary would be over long before the little states had a chance to vote. In the primary of 2008, the race was extremely close. Hillary actually won the popular vote but not the delegates.

5. I wish for all primaries on the same day and all closed primaries with cross overs allowed up to 6

months before the voting date.

12. Sanders would never be competitive in this model...

He'd never build momentum from retail-politics States.

14. CA offered the parties an earlier primary

IF THEY PAID FOR IT... though they will never be allowed to run them.

It is prohibitively expensive.
