When you were a kid, did they ever try to scare you at church?

Scare you about how terrible hell will be, and all of that?

That is what I am reminded of when I see someone say - if you dont vote for hillary, Trump will be your fault.

Just like when I was 8 years old in sunday school, you know I have little to no interest in what you're selling, so you try to shame and scare me.

Looks bad on you.

It is known as the Catechism ...

I was in Catholic School from Kindergarten through 5th grade ... Fear of hellish punishments was a primary focus ...

3. Thankfully, I never entered a church until my early teen years.

Went with friends a few times...was a bit bemused by the whole thing. Raised atheist (or, rather, around atheists...my folks tried not to influence me all that much in this matter).

And the people saying a Trump win will be on non-voting Bernie supporters can go fuck themselves. Want my vote? Field an acceptable candidate.

9. God man Marley says:

Mar 2016

Preacher man don't tell me heaven is under the earth
I know you don't know what life is really worth
Is not all that glitters in gold and
Half the story has never been told
So now you see the light, aay
Stand up for your right. Come on

Get up, stand up, stand up for your right
Get up, stand up, don't give up the fight
(Repeat)

Most people think great God will come from the sky
Take away ev'rything, and make ev'rybody feel high
But if you know what life is worth
You would look for yours on earth
And now you see the light
You stand up for your right, yeah!

11. That's a well-ingrained "strategy"

for the party when members are considering revolt.

And it happens every presidential primary season.

I agree that it looks bad. In my case, it's not only ineffective, it's counter productive. Try to shame, scare, or bully me, and I'm likely to hit back hard.

You know: when someone on the playground starts something, you finish it, and you get blamed.

14. Fail. Bad analogy. The consequences of enabling a Republican victory are quite real.

Maybe instead of your church analogy, think about efforts when you were younger to educate you about practicing safe sex, avoiding drunk driving, wearing seat belts, not playing in traffic, diving head-first into empty swimming pools, etc. ..things that have real and potentially dire consequences that you may not yet have experienced first hand.

a better strategy would be to earn support, rather than turn people away by treating them with disrespect.

the months and months of numerous posts telling us that if we don't vote for Bernie the Democrats will definitely lose in November, because Bernie is the only one strong enough to beat any of them? Scare tactics by the bucketful.

In the religious tradition I grew up in (Reform Judaism), there was no concept of hell; or of reward or punishment in the afterlife. We were taught that our afterlife consisted of the things we left behind in the world during our lifetimes. So I'm not scared of anything ... except trying to lead a good life while I'm here.

If there is no god, there is no plan, and no one owes you and you don't owe them, and no one has any reason to treat any one with anything except love and respect.

When he announces for the Libertarians in May for the Libertarians he will squish Trump like a bug, divide the repubs, even if they throw in Ryan, and a 4 way race may still benefit Clinton.

If you actually take the time to look at the polls, Hillary is consistently the weakest Democratic candidate in the GE. Fortunately, the same polls show that Trump is the weakest GOP candidate in the GE.

Polls consistently show that both parties are on track to nominate their weakest candidates:
http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2016/president/2016_presidential_race.html

General Election: Trump vs. Clinton
Poll Date Clinton (D) Trump (R) Spread
RCP Average 2/11 - 3/6 47.3 41.0 Clinton +6.3

General Election: Cruz vs. Clinton
Poll Date Cruz (R) Clinton (D) Spread
RCP Average 2/10 - 3/6 46.2 45.4 Cruz +0.8

General Election: Trump vs. Sanders
Poll Date Sanders (D) Trump (R) Spread
RCP Average 2/10 - 3/6 50.8 40.8 Sanders +10.0

General Election: Cruz vs. Sanders
Poll Date Sanders (D) Cruz (R) Spread
RCP Average 2/10 - 2/27 50.0 40.3 Sanders +9.7

PS - the Catholic Church's fear-mongering was one of the reasons I became a confirmed atheist by the age of 11.

22. I wasnt aiming to compare the scariness.....
Thu Mar 17, 2016, 11:59 AM
Mar 2016

To the person who said this is a bad analogy, you missed the point completely.

I was not looking to compare the scariness of trump to the scariness of hell.

I was looking to compare the tactics of someone who knows their message isn't selling to the tactics of someone else who knows their message isn't selling.

Hope that clears it up.
