2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumSaw Biden this morning - and my kids got hugs
I took my 2 daughters to see Biden in Greeley, CO this morning. After standing in the freezing cold wind for 2 hours we were finally let in, and ended up right at the front, in the middle (many thanks to the OFA Field Officers from our local office who saw us and arranged to get us into the special area up front.)
Biden was awesome. What a great guy!
Afterwards he did the usual handshake thing, and both my kids got hugs from him. He also gave my youngest one of his VP coins

And here are both my girls holding the coin:

I left the rally feeling very emotional. Obama HAS to win. Romney would be a disaster.

(15,412 posts)so we can get to the front of the line!
Clinton just did an "at the airport" thing when he ran (I'm in Utah, don't blame him for not spending any time here. But I tooik my young son and everyone let "that cute boy" to the front so he could see. Worked when Gore was here too.
I got to meet a few politicians, including JFK, as a child. I think my Aunts were on to the same trick and took a kid or two so as to get to the front.
It's pretty cool and it solidifies, IMHO, a kid's love for our party.

Good for you for building these lovely memories into your children. I'd sure vote for 'em!

(320 posts)So I've done some research on the coin and apparently it's a pretty big deal :
"While thousands of Presidential coins exist (inaugural, commemorative, and tokens), only a very small number of Presidential Challenge Coins have been made. The President and Vice President have typically only handed these out to Military members, their families, a select few dignitaries, and other people that have supported the Nation in one way or another."
And from a friend in the military:
"It's big in the military...They're called "challenge" coins. You go to a bar and someone throws their coin on the bar. Whoever has the lowest ranked coin, or no coin has to buy. Basically, B will never have to buy drinks, unless someone pulls out a presidential coin. They are normally given out by commanders to troops that have performed above and beyond. Not everyone has one."
I guess he must have been really taken with her
