Many of the arguments that Trump will beat Clinton contain a major flaw.

They are presented as one sided commentary. Hit pieces on Clinton without any commentary on the deficiencies of her opponent.

Clinton is a heavyweight as are we. Nothing about it will be one sided. Clinton is a fighter and no one denies that. Yet all of the arguments are presented from one position only. The position that only Trump will have a voice. It's simply not the case nor is it based in reality. Clinton is a fighter as are her supporters.

Hillary Clinton’s Allies Launch Plan to Undercut Donald Trump Now

Pro-Democratic groups are launching an orchestrated bid to weaken GOP presidential front-runner Donald Trump ahead of a potential November showdown with Hillary Clinton, while her campaign readies a strategy of engaging the billionaire businessman on issues without trading insults.

A coalition of 22 liberal groups—including some that have endorsed Mrs. Clinton and others that back her Democratic rival, Sen. Bernie Sanders—have united behind a campaign to stop Mr. Trump.

Among their plans: anti-Trump demonstrations, possibly including protests at the Republican National Convention this summer in Cleveland, and marches in major cities.

Skinner claimed that using Trump as a political weapon against Democrats would not be tolerated. It's sad that you even have to think that you have to make an argument for Hillary over Trump. Trump is using division to fuel his campaign. Hillary has forgotten more about government than Trump has ever known.

They assume Trump has only one voice, and it's always racist, xenophobic and right wing. Trump will attack Clinton from the left and the right. He will come at her from the left, positioning himself to her left on some issues, even if he does not believe in that particular position. Demonstrations and marches? Trump loves that sort of thing. It means more TV camera time for him. Trump is going to make himself a moving target, and Clinton will find it difficult to attack him on many issues. It promises to be very interesting.

and will offset his extraordinarily racist bigoted misogynistic etc. statements?

Are you suggesting that there are voters who identify themselves as progressive that would overlook his bigotry because he says something anti-bank? Because I wouldn't view anyone who did that as being remotely progressive.

He could badger Clinton about her support for Israel, advocate not selling them F-35s, etc. His base pretty much dislikes Israel, even if they hate Iran more.

He could also go after Wall Street, even though he's buddies with many of them. He could easily point out Clinton is associated with the wrong bankers, and is only pretending to fight for the little guy, etc.

That every single voter who didn't already vote for Hillary in a primary
will vote for Trump.
According to that reasoning states like Michigan will turn red.
I've seen some of Bernies supporters make that argument.

My other favorite is that Hillary can't win in swing states.
You know states like OH, VA, FL where she blew Bernie out.

It's not about Republican versus Democrat, red versus blue. It is about people who are fed up about the status quo. And Hillary is status quo, D.C. insider, whatever you want to label it. While Michigan may not go for Trump, there a bunch of purple states that may very well go in his direction due to the disgust with the status quo.

When Bernie win's the nomination I'll vote for him.
So far that's not happened and he's running out of opportunities.

And for a lot of people especially Democrats it is about Democrats versus Republicans
which is Bernie is trailing so badly among Democratic voters. He's done ok in caucus states and open primaries.
There are a lot of closed primaries coming up. He should probly make his move pretty soon before the
math becomes impossible instead of just very very unlikely.

Starting from relative unknown to getting as many votes as he has against the well known candidate favored by the Democratic Party establishment is amazing. But his message is much more powerful than anything Hillary was putting out before she started using some of his talking points.

And you made my point--his message resonates with a lot of people outside of the Democratic faithful. That's where I see danger in November.

As cracked as Trump may be, he is creating excitement by promising to upset the apple cart.
Hillary's incremental approach does not sound so exciting.

but he's a really long shot to win the Democratic nomination without
major appeal to traditional Democrats.

Trumps appeal is to the angry white guy vote and the racist vote.
He won't carry AAs, Hispanics, women. or moderates.
Some of the RW radio guys are even banding together together to try to stop him.
The GOP party leaders don't want him either.

While it may not be exciting, incremental is how things get done in politics.

Versus Hillary, I think Trump would destroy her in the moderate segment. That group is at the center of the "year of the outsider" movement. No status-quo candidate is going to poll well with them. Bernie would win them over Trump; Hillary won't.

I think by the time the GE gets here Trumps
reality show brand of politics will have worn pretty thin.
He'll carry the pissed off white guy vote. The moderates will
break for Hillary. At least enough of them will when you add women AAs and Hispanics.
Those groups aren't going for Trump.

It's a pretty good bet that either Trump runs 3rd party
or all his supporters sit it out.
As I said upthread a lot of the Trump supporters are
Trump or else. Same as the Ron Paul supporters were. They're not
interested in anything but blowing the GOP to bits.
They hate President Obama so much that anybody who hasn't spat at him is
in their eyes covered in the taint of compromise. Reality doesn't enter into it for them.

Trump invites chaos and would provoke a civil war. By civil war I am not implying their will be actual violence but there will be some. Americans are a temperamentally conservative people. That is the last thing they will sign up for.

One -- assume that Trump will be their nominee even as the GOP tries to find a way to stop that

Two -- assume that HRC will be the Dem nominee even while Biden was que'd up to step in and rescue Obama's legacy.

But it seems these days everyone's a psychic.

Fri Mar 18, 2016, 11:52 AM

And what has disturbed me about that in primaries is that many more Republicans are voting in total than Democrats.

In Florida alone democrats lost about 50K voters and Republicans picked up about 3 million from 2012 primaries.

20. The biggest argument is turnout.
Fri Mar 18, 2016, 12:19 PM
Mar 2016

Hillary will not have the turnout necessary. Obama lost 10 million voters from 2008 to 2012 and was just lucky that Romney was so uninspiring that the GOP lost 3 million voters, so Obama stayed in.

In 2004 there was a HUGE movement to "Stop Bush". There was even a whole rock tour (ACT For Change I believe it was called) dedicated to getting bush out.

The democrats put up such a weak candidate that they simply didn't have the turnout necessary to defeat a president even as unpopular and weak as bush.

They are doing it again.

No matter how much people don't like Trump and think he is an idiot.. THAT ALONE is not going to motivate people to get out and vote. You REALLY want them to turn out, they have to be voting FOR SOMEONE.

Who, in their right mind, is going to vote FOR Clinton?
