Related: About this forumReport: Clinton Changed Stance on Trade Deal After Donations to Clinton Foundation
Remember how HRC promised voters she would vote against the FTA with Colombia, but then lobbied and voted FOR it (as revealed in the emails)?
The Clinton Foundation reportedly accepted millions of dollars from a Colombian oil company head before then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton decided to support a trade deal with Colombia despite worries of human rights violations.
The report in the International Business Times comes as Clinton readies an expected run for president. Shes been dogged by questions about whether foreign donations to her foundations could have influenced her official decisions.
The report centers on donations from Frank Giustra and the oil company that he founded, Pacific Rubiales. In a Wall Street Journal story from 2008, Giustra is described as a friend and traveling companion of former President Clinton who donated more than $130 million to Clintons philanthropies. Hes also a Clinton Foundation board member and has participated in projects and benefits for the foundation.
When workers at Pacific Rubiales decided to strike in 2011, the Columbian military reportedly used force to stop the strikes and compel them to return to work, IBT reports, citing the Washington office of Latin America, a human rights group. Those accusations of human rights violations were part of the criticism of the United States-Colombia Free Trade Promotion Agreement, which was passed by Congress later that year. Pacific Rubiales has repeatedly denied charges that it infringed on workers rights.

here's more from an older OP:
On the eve of South Carolinas Democratic presidential primary, the U.S. State Department released 1,500 pages of Democratic candidate Hillary Clintons emails from her tenure as secretary of state. Included in the 881 emails published Friday night are messages highlighting Clinton lobbying for a controversial Colombian trade deal she previously pledged to oppose.
During her 2008 presidential run, Clinton said she opposed the deal because I am very concerned about the history of violence against trade unionists in Colombia. She later declared, I oppose the deal. I have spoken out against the deal, I will vote against the deal, and I will do everything I can to urge the Congress to reject the Colombia Free Trade Agreement.
But newly released emails show that as secretary of state, Clinton was personally lobbying Democratic members of Congress to support the deal, even promising one senior lawmaker that the deal would extend labor protections to Colombian workers that would be as good or better than those enjoyed by many workers in the United States.
One of the 2011 emails from Clinton to U.S. Trade Representative Michael Froman and Clinton aide Robert Hormats has a subject line Sandy Levin a reference to the Democratic congressman who serves on the House Ways and Means Committee, which oversees U.S. trade policy.
In the email detailing her call with Levin, she said the Michigan lawmaker appreciates the changes that have been made, the national security arguments and Santos's reforms -- the latter presumably a reference to Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos. She concludes the message about the call with Levin by saying, I told him that at the rate we were going, Columbian workers were going to end up w the same or better rights than workers in Wisconsin and Indiana and, maybe even, Michigan.
Froman a former Citigroup executive who as trade representative was lobbying for passage of the deal responded by thanking Clinton for her "help and support. Hormats, a former vice chairman of Goldman Sachs who subsequently was hired by Clinton at the State Department, later chimed in, telling her terrific job and GREAT line on Columbian workers!!!!!

These facts are over their heads. Some are just voting because she has a v-Jay.
Some people here claimed I called Hillary a v-Jay, so I edited the post for clarification.
And let me be clear, when if I wanted to refer to Hillary with the most accurate term, it would definitely be Grifter. Like this:
Some are just voting for the Grifter because she has a v-Jay.
Funny how they didn't try to prove my first sentence wrong... Not a peep from any of them on why they don't care about Free Trade.

(24,470 posts)Seriously? Why can't you just disagree with someone without calling names and accusing them of something of which you have absolutely no knowledge?
Can't you just debate the issues?
Avalon Sparks
(2,566 posts)Didn't refer to anyone in particular.
There are lemmings every where in this country, and it's not necessary meant as an insult.
Some people just follow along and they're fine with that.

(2,543 posts)because of her gender. I saw it repeatedly in my WA caucus on Saturday. A woman who agreed with Bernie on EVERY SINGLE ISSUE flat out said she's supporting HRC because she's a woman. There's a lot here re HRC to be offended about, but a slang term for female genitalia ISN'T one of them.

Bettie
(16,120 posts)but why do we call it a "pantsuit" when a woman is wearing it but just a "suit" when a man is?
With regard to your actual point, I wouldn't go so far as Cheney, but she's definitely far to the right of where I'd like to see our party's nominee.
Avalon Sparks
(2,566 posts)I think there's a difference in the cut of a women's pantsuit vs a women's suit, and it's a coordinated look, while a women's suit is cut more sharply and meant to be worn together.
NastyRiffraff
(12,448 posts)Ye gods. That makes absolutely no sense. Comparing a women's suit with...a women's suit? Jeez.

Now, do have any comments to add on why support Free Trade agreements? That's the topic of this thread. Or are they of no relevance to you, and if so why not?

(92,372 posts)"Some are just voting for the v-Jay."
There was a discussion on DU a few months back where they referred to Hillary with the "c word", and some seemed not to have a problem with that also, because that is exactly what the poster is calling Hillary
This not only does a disservice to Bernie and those who support him, but it also shows a very ugly face about DU
Avalon Sparks
(2,566 posts)I'll clarify my comments if they are confusing.

(1,053 posts)does that mean we're good to say "Some Sanders voters are just
voting with their (trying to think of an equally juvenile, semi-innocuous
euphemism) wieners?"
I mean, for every person out there voting for her because she's
a "her"...there's one voting against her because she's a "her."
In the grand scheme of things, the numbers of either are pretty
insignificant, I'm willing to bet.

All these things are Gender Neutral.
I'm embarrassed to admit, there was a time in my life not long ago, before the Iraq War, when I pined for a Woman as POTUS, as Senate and Congressional leaders, as a majority on SCOTUS, Federal Reserve, as Heads of State everywhere. Under some misguided notion, that Elected Women would fundamentally change the world, bring about peace, prosperity, justice and equality to all. I even briefly thought of Hillary Clinton as the perfect candidate even felt sorry for her being married to Bill has brought her. Figured after she ran for Senate she'd part company.
LOL! OMG! What the past 2 decades have revealed!

(1,053 posts)Cool, I'm glad you can admit that at one time, you based your election opinions on simplistic
reasoning. We were all younger once.
...But don't suppose to tell us whether or not our opinions are based on equally simplistic
reasons.
I'm glad you can see that "voting with their wieners" is an idiotic basis for an attack,
as it should be. So is "voting with their v-jays," so I hope you'll join us in mocking
and ridiculing that type of talk regardless of where it comes from.
If not, that indignation you present above comes off as rather disingenuous.

Or let me state it another way: if you're a man voting for the man, you're not reduced to your reproductive parts, but if you're a woman voting for the woman you are?
And people say they don't see what people complain about when they complain about the sexism among Bernie's followers.

(4,640 posts)because I feel the juries are stacked, and certainly NOT fair and impartial. So I expect this stupidity will stay.
What you said is vile. Because I am a woman, doesn't mean I vote with my woman PARTS. That's as bad as me telling a man that he's voting with his "meat and 2 veg". I would never do that.
I'm not even dignifying the rest of your garbage post with a reasoned response. It would be lost on you.

Colombia has a very ambitious trade agenda. It has initiated FTA negotiations with South Korea and Panama and has plans to start talking to Japan and Turkey. Theyve also been looking at joining Mercosur [Southern Common Market], and their free trade agreement with Canada went into force in 2010.
And they now have a free trade agrement With China
