Romney was too political and used a racial code word at Smith Dinner

Romney didnt use the chance to be jovial and have fun, he used it to attack Obama using racist code words/dog whistle and politics.

The racial dog whistle joke Romney told was that Obama saw all the people in WHITE and he wanted to redistribute everything. Hmmm sounds like a call out to those 'welfare queens.'

Romney attacked Obama on his relationship with the Church, there hardly was a joke with it, he just wanted to mention the contraception controversy.

Romney ended by evoking God and talking about the "rights of the unborn." Thus another political dig in an event that is supposed to be for fun.

These are the examples I can remember now, there were a lot more Romney comments that shocked me. We can see them when the transcript is available.

...but mostly about self deprecation.

Romney was policy specific and very political. He took nasty digs at Obama, not playful jibes, and then tried to smooth things over by saying he really liked his family. Obama made his Clint Eastwood joke, a joke about Romney being very rich, and a joke about Ryan's b.s. marathon time...but the rest of the speech was jokes about himself and Biden. His joke about napping through his first debate was friggin' hilarious. Obama was all class, Romney was no class.

They said Romney lack delivery or conviction.

Maybe Chris Rock could have delivered those jokes and I might have thought it was funny.

I doubt it.

You are right Cluster.

Carter wasn't remembered as especially funny but he had a good line when he said that "the ink on President Ford's I Love New York button was still wet." This was after he refused to help the city when it was on the verge of bankruptcy.
