Should the Hillary crowd just write in Hillary at the ballot box?
I see some here advocating Bernie or Bust, so why should Hillary supporters turn around and back Bernie?
I can think of plenty of reasons why this would be a dangerous, stupid, and psychotic thing to do (see: Trump. See: SCOTUS). Obviously voting for the Dem nominee is the only sane choice, but then what does that say about the Bernie or Bust crowd?

(4,387 posts)If you honestly do, which I find hard to believe, then yes you should write in someone else. The reality is that Hillary folks have little to nothing to lose with a Sanders nomination so it's not a hard jump for them to turn around a vote for him. Bernie supporters have to set aside ethical standards, which is a lot harder.

(11,417 posts)First, he has too much baggage to win. But even if he did, he has pissed off all the Dems he would need to work with. Also, and most importantly, there is no revolution in sight. Hell he can't even get a majority of Dems to vote for him.

(19,877 posts)I think a Bernie presidency would tank the economy, shudder the markets, and lead to mass layoffs and recession. But what do I know, I only have 2 economic degrees.

(2,262 posts)The issues you have about Bernie, we have equally or more important issues in our minds about Hillary. So rather than participate in a pissing match, let's just agree to disagree. Neither side will change the others minds and votes. We should all be able to accept that by this time.
This constant attempt to imply one side's votes will harm the other side's candidate is and will go nowhere. Once all the primaries are over and a nominee truly exists, we can all weigh our options and make our own personal decisions. Until then, relax and have some fun.

The high horse "ethical standards" remark almost had me fall of my chair laughing. Good one!
TCJ70
(4,387 posts)...but Hillary and Bernie are running vastly different campaigns in terms of how their funded, how the contrasts being drawn, and honesty/consistency. For people who see corporate funding as an ethical issue and twisting facts (like the auto bailout crap, for example) as important issues, voting for Hillary is a stretch.

(8,168 posts)One of them is his single-mindedness, it's good to not be distracted or feel like one owe's a favor to anybody. It might make him a better president too, though it might also make him somewhat naive. Look how enthusiastic Obama was when he arrived in Washington. We still have a Republican Congress to deal with and this is where Hillary's savvy nature may be an advantage. I honestly don't know which is the better choice - I'll be as happy with either, so long as we elect a Democrat this fall. The alternative is demonic hell-on-earth.

(260 posts)I agree with you.

(9,527 posts)If Sanders wins the nomination then the choice isn't whether Clinton or Sanders is better. The real choice is whether Sanders is better than the Republican candidate. Yes there will be other candidates for other parties, but they are functionally irrelevant.

(30,058 posts)is zilch, even with Democratic Congress I don't think it would pass. It will not matter how many of protesters lives outside of the window. The thought of having Trump and Cruz as president over whelms any reasoning of showing my dislike of Sanders and his agenda.

(31,514 posts)disappointed dreams aside and elect that nominee in the GE. We have too much at stake to let Trump or Cruz take that office.
Regardless who you support now, you must admit that the other candidate would be far, far better than either of the choices on the Republican side.

(146,286 posts)Only people who do not care what happens in this country would ever suggest such a thing. That's why I don't take the "Bernie or Bust" posters seriously. I have to doubt whether they would ever vote for any Democrat for office, really.
So much depends on which party holds the Executive Branch that any such threats could not be from Democrats or progressives, in my opinion. I simply ignore anyone who says such things. They don't matter in any way.

(10,164 posts)Preferring Hillary to Bernie doesn't strike me as something a progressive would do over the issues. The only significant area in which they differ on issues is in the area of economic justice and excessive corporate political power. If one isn't a progressive, choosing Hillary makes sense, of course.
