2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumSanders has taken in $96.3 million and has spent $81.6 million. There are 4 months left until the
convention.
Given that he is behind in delegates and needs 65% of remaining delegates to catch Hillary, and given that the the percentage he needs goes up every time he he doesn't reach the amount needed, I don't think he will have cash enough to make it to the convention.
At least he won't be able to afford the campaign he has been running. He paid Ted Devine $850K for one month.
But maybe he can get people to fund a losing cause I don't know.
TCJ70
(4,387 posts)That's not true. The company owned by Ted Devine was paid that much. Their firm does consulting and advertising. Similar line items for the Hillary campaign are:
GMMB 16,604,798.72
Bully Pulpit Interactive LLC 1,040,000.00
That's one consulting firm and one advertising firm. I think Bernie's doing alright.

(1,901 posts)standard tactics? Good to know.
CoffeeCat
(24,411 posts)That seems to be the goal of the OP.
The hot-off-the-presses news is that Sanders out-raised Hillary two months in a row.
I think this has them hoping that spreading some seeds of doubt could be useful in suppressing further donations.
<snicker>
I don't know about you...but I don't come to a messageboard seeking advice about where I donate my money. And certainly, I've never been dissuaded from supporting Bernie with contributions from some anonymous source on a messageboard.
Why people engage in these fruitless tactics is beyond me. They don't work.
JonLeibowitz
(6,282 posts)I take these smears as evidence they really do have nothing on this candidate and hope to distract and smear. But by doing so they reveal their true self. Here are some of the hateful comments from the twitter thread that this particular smear comes from (All Hilllary supporters):
https://twitter.com/jconsolantis/status/712133771328430084
Simply incredible comment, he has so much class to be talking about a candidate's wife like that. I'm sure the forthcoming article about degrading Hillary supporter's comments is going to be great. HillBros?
https://twitter.com/tyler_tortoise/status/712144941971951616
And @mill09 follows up and agrees.
Targeting a specific race to bilk $$? Because only white people have money? Racism from Clinton supporters? Say it ain't so!

It's like if the campaign hires a catering busines to provide food for campaign workers and events, the salary of the owner of the catering service is not a factor.

(1,442 posts)You have stated in so many other OPs and replies you 'can not stand that man'
So please spare us the troll threads and replies you post
Obviously ideology and principle aren't your focus, only a specific candidate regardless of progressive ideology and principal
GL with that, and allow the rest of us to continue to support a candidate that holds, promotes, and defends the progressive ideals we want to keep in this primary cycle as well as the GE

(1,442 posts)the parallels are striking...
I focus on ideology and principal, your anger and angst against Bernie as a person is noted
HRC isn't a progressive, she doesn't hold nor champion my ideals and principals
synergie
(1,901 posts)and posts about how much they hate her, so why pretend that ideology and principle are at play here, or are a focus of anyone pretending they care.
This is the GD-P, and you're free to express your support of Hillary here, as much as you'd like.
If you wish to ensconce yourself in a Bernie bubble, and avoid unpleasant facts about how his actions don't quite match his words and stated ideals, then feel free to wander into the Bernie Group where you post as you wish, without being exposed to a single negative thing about Bernie, ever and you can drift happily believing he is perfect and worthy and Jesus-like (as I believe a few threads in that group have opined) as you wish undisturbed by reality or facts.
Run along if you can't tolerate simple facts and honest questioning about where all that money is going with a campaign that keeps insisting that money and politics don't mix, but which is burning through it at an alarming pace. That's a legitimate question, and allow those of us who can handle reality and facts to discuss.

(1,442 posts)Who's 'pretending'?
history isn't your friend now is it, you do realize that all I have to do is look over each candidate and their histories, the policies and ideology they've carried through the years and any and all shifts within that context...
You do realize who's been the most consistent and strongest to progressive ideals do you not? Oh wait... you don't

(23,272 posts)That its gotten this far in just 5 years is a testament to the power of the anger and rage people are feeling.
I would think Hillary supporters would rather this movement stayed channeled through the political process. Revolutions that take to the streets end badly, especially for unpopular "leaders" in government.
So short answer is no, its not dependent on Bernie. Furthermore I'm thinking that's not a good thing for Hillary.
An anecdote : in my far west Chicago suburban Sanders campaign office we had @ 200 regular volunteers. Last night there was an jnformal get together, just a text message blast saying "come on by! Let's figure out where we go from here!"
Bernie lost IL remember? Yet almost all 200 of us were there last night - too many to fit in the 20x20 office space so we held it in the parking lot outside in the dark and cold.
We're not going away and this movement isn't dying.
upaloopa

That plus attacking Hillary 24/7 all the way to the convention to weaken her in the GE, lots of people will pay cash for that sadly.

(10,493 posts)that I am helping fund. It's about time a politician listened to me. It's good to know so many other americans out there agree, and he's opening so many more up to our way of thinking. I better get some more money over there, so he can keep spreading the word. This will really help push the message and agenda home in the coming years. Especially with this many actively engaged supporting willing to fund campaign for it.

shadowandblossom
(718 posts)I just wish he would use some of that to help downticket dems and support those that the "revolution" requires to exist. I think there are still people who will give him money. On that note, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee is looking for funds to help Dems get elected to congress, DONATE TO THEM TOO! Let's take back the HOUSE so we can get out of gridlock and get good policies through.

SamKnause
(13,101 posts)That is an outright lie.
You know this.
The Bernie campaign is doing just fine.
His campaign has millions of people who will donate.
Loudestlib
(980 posts)Bernie Sanders out-raised Hillary Clinton by $13.4m in February. Most of Sanders donations are small donations from lots of people. Most of Hillary's donations are big donations from a few people. What this means is that the Sanders supporters can still still give a lot! The Hillary supporters are almost maxed out.
If you think that if Hillary wins the primary, the Sanders supporters win start donating to Hillary, you're in for a shock. Some of Sanders supporters might vote for her but they're not going to donate or volunteer for one of the most disliked democratic nominees in modern history. If she wins the primary she'll run out of money and supporters in the general election.
