2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumI really don't understand why a video like this doesn't just say it all.
I mean, is it too short a clip? Too hard to decipher? Out of context? Hillary gets a pass because her policies will be so different than Bill's and not influenced by him in any way.? People don't like Medicare anymore?
The writing is on the wall folks. Hillary and Bill are not Progressives economically, in hardly any sense of the word. They are willing to give away our social services in an instant, all the while claiming they had no other choice.
She is also a hawkish Neocon.

Do you really feel safer with views like this? Do you really think this is the way for the United States to act, especially if we are to have anything like peace and prosperity?

(9,852 posts)Hillary Clinton and go nanananana at the obvious.
The posting of facts by Democrats in 2016 is not equivalent to the GOP and right wing slime machine of the 1990s.
Hillary Clinton has a well-documented history post 2001.
Hillary Clinton votes and recommends neo-liberal and a neo-conservative policies.
Bill and Hillary Clinton have benefited financially like no other exe-POTUS ever, not even close.
The Clinton Foundation is larger and unlike any non-profit founded by any exe-POTUS ever as well.
Hillary Clinton was my least favorite Democratic candidate in 2008, I was down on Obama for appointing her SOS (where she failed but she and the Clinton Foundation benefited), and Hillary Clinton in 2008 and again in 2016 set the low bar for Democratic campaigning.

(20,709 posts)I guess the conspiracy theorists assume he was saying we should cut Medicare or privatize it.
Anyone who is going to sit out the GE and let the GOP take over obviously doesn't care at all about preserving Medicare.

(5,792 posts)Bill says I'm glad we won NY..but I hope the democrats don't use it as an EXCUSE to do NOTHING about Medicare. (not exact but right on) Ryan talks over Bill when he says the word Medicare!
Ryan says Got to get this thing moving
Bill says: Want to talk about it give me a call
If you can not hear that than you are in DENIAL like the rest of the Hillary supporters. This is exactly why Bernie supporters are voting for Bernie. Hillary is in this agenda just as Bill is. It's the club and they all stick together. SICK!
We are sick of the dishonesty from the Clintons. Disgusted!

i am on Medicare because I am also on SSDI due to 11 years of back issues/surgeries and lots of pain. I have dealt with both private insurance, worker's comp (insurance companies) and Medicare. I will tell you that although it's not perfect, Medicare is so much easier to deal with and willing to work with me AND the private insurance companies. I hate to see them go the other way.

(15,189 posts)So if Bernie is not the nom, we're supposed to vote for the assholes who will cut SSI and medicare? Slimy fucks will NEVER get my vote. I so wish I could take my 92 and 96 vote back. Fuck you Bill Clinton. And now he's trying for a third term under the disguise of Hillary. Both are slimy and now this shit. And now were being told Bill didn't talk bad about Obama. Only it's in the Bubble. Cowards.

(3,687 posts)Talk is cheap. his "support" for Bernie has been disturbingly weak-kneed at best and gets more so each week. He's been hedging his bets for a few months now and it's disappointing. He makes a lot of excuses for her RW nature. He would have you believe that he's so worried about the 'circular firing squad'. You cant win an election riding the fence.
It's a shame. I've been listening to his show since Vermont and it's why I know about Bernie. I've learned a ton from him. But, if I was Bernie I'd be pissed at the type of 'support' he's been getting from Thom.
I know I"ll get slammed for this but it's the way I see it.

(11,546 posts)wow... I am very disappointed to hear this.
"You cant win an election riding the fence." - that is for damn sure!! And after those years of "Brunch with Bernie"??
I will try to listen this week. This whole election is amazing and bringing out things that I never thought would happen.
All in it together
(275 posts)He wanted to avoid a circular firing squad in the party. But lately he's allowing people to talk about Hillary even if what they are saying isn't positive and not cutting them off or going on a rant about how good she'd be. This is still the primary and I think Bernie is running for good reason against Hillary and to move us all to a more progressive country.
Ferd Berfel
(3,687 posts)Notice that he will defend Hillary by saying (paraphrased) she's moving to the left...., she's sounding like Bernie on this one...., she has now started saying the same thing as Bernie on this one...., She's changed her position - more like Bernie....
ANd I'm screaming at the radio:
are we in a vacuum here?
Is this day one and we have no history on this person?
AYFKM?
What about the triangulation and flipflops?
talk is cheap - WHY would you believe her just because it came out of her mouth all of a sudden?
I hope that if I ever run for office that I have NO 'supporters' like Thom.

This is a prime case of seeing what you want to see and hearing what you want to hear. And it's far too late to knock our leading Presidential nominee off her game.

(34,845 posts)In your own post, you said Clinton referred to Democrats "doing nothing on Medicare". At no point did he say he wanted to cut benefits. It's all in your imagination.
It's just more diplomacy-speak, a way to get your adversary to relax and maybe give in a little. Talk friendly to him, make it seem like the two of you are not adversaries, after all. That in no way, shape or form means that Clinton wanted to cut benefits.
It's just not there in the video.

democrattotheend
(12,011 posts)He said "do nothing". Cut might have been what he meant by doing something, but it's not what he actually said.
In his defense, we do need to "do something" to keep Medicare sustainable. I did a paper on it a few years ago for my health policy class and as much as I hate to say it, we have to either do some cost cutting measures or accept that the program is going to be a bigger and bigger net loss for the government every year, instead of being self-sustainable as originally intended.
To be clear, I am not saying I agree with anything Paul Ryan wants to do with Medicare. I think "do something" should mean allowing Medicare to negotiate prescription drug prices and providing more incentives to choose palliative rather than aggressive end of life care. Theoretically, that could be what Bill meant by "not doing nothing." However, given his audience, I'd say it's unlikely.
