2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumIs RCP playing dirty politics with national polls to set false narrative?
For one, they have refused to included Ipsos poll post debate 1, even though they have a previous one included from september. Now they are refusing to post the latest national poll from Uconn/Hartford showing Obama +3.

I know they accept this poll because a previous sample is on there from September.
Latest Rasmussen poll came out a little bit ago and it was updated on RCP shortly thereafter. The above poll has been available for past 10 hours but RCP is ignoring it.

(27,315 posts)This said, RCP does not play with which polls they include. They never included Ipsos or any other internet polls. Neither does TPM, which lists them but does not include them in the average.

(5,764 posts)It is well documented that they constantly manipulate their top line averages. Just a while ago they included a JZ Analytics poll that was favorable to Romney but a couple weeks later the same pollster showed results favorable to Obama... never acknowledged. They manipulate when they allow polls to drop from the averages... *always* in favor of Romney... when Gallup let people see what the 3 days of post first debate polling in their 7 day tracker looked like RCP declared it a second independent poll because it was so Romney favorable, put those numbers in the average, then THREW OUT the official tracking number results which were much more Obama favorable for the next couple days.
They say one of the reasons they exist is frustration with the "Liberal media bias"... they are the FOX NEWS of polling aggregation.
Mass
(27,315 posts)They do not include Internet tracking polls.
Of course, they favor polls that favor Romney, but we have to stop whining because something does not go the way we want. We look as silly as unskewedpolls.com

(9,205 posts)It was blatantly obvious that they were selective in which polls they included in the daily average, and always to favor the Republicans.
I don't bother checking their site for this reason, but from what others are saying, they're still doing the same thing nowadays.
The comparison with unskewedpolls is gratuitous.

(5,764 posts)JZanalytics poll that favors Romney? Included. JZ Analytics poll that favors Obama? Excluded.
OFFICIAL Gallup results that favor Obama? Excluded. Press release about portion of results that favors Romney? Included.
Polls conducted on the SAME day? Poll that favors Obama dropped from average DAYS before poll that favors Romney. Repeatedly.
They do this *all the time*. it's their standard operating procedure. The only thing they are "consistent" about is skewing the numbers in one direction wherever they think they can get away with it.
And no, pointing out that objective fact that is not the same as those morons as "unskewed polls".

(2 posts)Hi everybody - I just suspected that RCP might be doing something to influence public opinion.
Call it a gut feeling of a mathematician at heart.
Googling is rcp conservative, right I found this site.
Here guys: you can get your own idea where all stands realistically by following
https://twitter.com/PollTracker
Then, here is a REAL statistician who draws his conclusions from ALL available data:
http://fivethirtyeight.blogs.nytimes.com/2012/10/19/oct-18-obama-gains-in-forecast-on-resiliency-in-swing-state-polls/#more-36350
Please, note: you will get 10 free accesses to the site within a month, after that theyll want you to subscribe to the New York Times.
But: good news is, they are currently offering a special of 99 cents for 4 weeks, which would cover you to the elections. You can cancel any time
.
P.S. If there is any doubt, read this: http://www.realclearpolitics.com/articles/2012/10/20/mitt_romney_and_the_rise_of_practicalism_115835.html

(1,385 posts)Is especially troubling considering that if you look at their history RCP has included it before. Strange considering that when gallup hit 52 they posted that a minute after the poll came out.
I didnt realize they included ipsos/reuters before, updated my post.
This is even worse, there should be 3 polls there showing Obama +3. Seriously, wow.
vdogg
(1,385 posts)Romney +0.3 now and both polls included.
But ipsos still missing.

(24,089 posts)Pollster hasnt listed that UCONN poll yet in their average, and I Blumenthal is a straight shooter.

(179 posts)If Ipsos/Reuters and Hartford Courant/UConn were used pre debate 1, why not post debate 1? Ask them.

(25,415 posts)But the editorial content and articles are all skewed conservatively.
Per wikipedia:
The site was founded in 2000 by former options trader John McIntyre and former advertising agency account executive Tom Bevan.
Forbes Media LLC bought a 51% equity interest in the site in 2007.
In an interview with the conservative magazine Human Events, McIntyre described the philosophy behind the Web site as based on "freedom" and "common-sense values." Said Bevan, "We think debate on the issues is a very important thing. We post a variety of opinions." He further stated, "we have a frustration all conservatives have", which is "the bias in media against conservatives, religious conservatives, Christian conservatives."
Kind of obvious. RCP is a right wing site so don't look for them to be even handed or fair. Use it to look for the latest polls or use Polltracker at Huffington Post.

(19,458 posts)It was based on something from RCP today that stated that Romney NOW leads the Electoral College polling, which we all know is bullshit.
The story was on the front page, then gone. Poof!! Further into the story, it said that the President holds the lead with electoral college polling, but the headline and first paragraph clearly stated that RCP Said that Romney now leads EC ANd popular vote.
Wtf?
imgbitepolitic
(179 posts)They need to be honest. No excuse. If they included both showing +3 Obama each the RCP average would be Obama near +1.
Mr.Turnip
(645 posts)And its currently wacky outlier.

(4,551 posts)But yes, there has been much more manipulation since the first debate than I've seen at any time before this year.
Basically, Obama's drop in the polls after the first debate gave them the opening to begin fiddling with the numbers when unfavorable polls started to come out, and they've been doing it ever since.
There are still THREE polls from PPP missing from RCP this week:
1. The MA SEN poll showing Warren (+9) over Brown
2. The MT SEN poll showing Tester (+2) over Rehberg
3. The VA SEN poll showing Kaine (+5) over Allen & showing Obama (+1) over Romney
