Related: About this forumNeed Help With An Argument With a Republican Buddy (Regarding Military Vote)
I heard on MSNBC (yes, maybe I shoulda taken it with a grain of salt), that for the first time the Democrat Candidate is expected to win the votes of Military families. Yet, I don't see anything online about this.
Does anyone have any info or links they can provide?
My buddy says this would be impossible and that military families are expected to vote about 65% for Romney.
All help is appreciated!

(57,757 posts)Showing that more of those serving in the military have given to the President, but that of course isn't the same as votes. I don't know how MSNBC made that claim, whether they have some sort of poll, but I haven't seen it.

(15,359 posts)Bush's policies. Many of the troops have been deployed several times like we've never done to them before. Maybe Obama didn't pull the plug on the wars as early as I would have liked, but the prospect of Romney ramping things up again and getting more of them killed is probably frightening.
What does he think about Ohio now limiting early voting for military members and families? The right raised a big stink over the phony issue of Obama's lawsuit preventing Ohio from eliminating three days of early voting for everyone except the military and their families. Now they have cut the hours at the polling places. That reduces the voting opportunities for everyone, including the military people.

Yes, donations indicate military contributions favor Obama v Romney.

Look at the demographic of enlisted personnel--not just officers.
I imagine the military senses that Romney is likely to put them right back in harm's way.
For what? So his buddies can make a buck off the US Treasury?

(24 posts)Here is your Romney vs Obama poll.
8 polls, actually. Click the little white boxes at the bottom of the box... lots of info.
"The professional core of the U.S. military overwhelmingly favors Mitt Romney over President Obama in the upcoming election but not because of any particular military issues, according to a new poll of more than 3,100 active and reserve troops."
I am an extreme longtime lurker here- I like to read, not post. I had to sign up to post for this election.
I have no special knowledge-except for the Military. I am a Vet married to an Active Duty Soldier who has served in Iraq and Afghanistan.
I do believe the Military is more supportive of Romney.
I am married to an African American, and most African American Service Members support our President.

Money talks military cash goes to Obama
By Jennifer Rizzo
October 17th, 2012
President Barack Obama's campaign has received almost double the amount of military donations that Mitt Romney's campaign has, according to data collected by a research group that tracks money and lobbying in U.S. politics.
It's a clue, perhaps, into who the military is rooting for in this presidential election. Obama has received more than $530,000 in campaign contributions from individual military donors, while Romney has taken in more than $280,000 in donations from individuals involved with the military.
Obama's lead in military donations comes despite hundreds of billions in cuts to the Defense Department and the Republican ticket blaming him for a potential half-trillion dollars more in cuts if Congress can't agree on a deficit deal.
The Center for Responsive Politics compiled the information using data reported to the Federal Election Commission and includes donations greater than $200 from both military and civilian employees of the nation's defense sector.

(2,404 posts)Romney's support among vets and active duty is insurmountable.
There are many military who support President Obama, and Romney's draft-dodging story is well-known.

(24 posts)I have lived on military posts for over 20 years. My husband can retire but will serve a few more years.
I am originally from a very blue state, and have lived throughout the world as a military member and spouse.
I cannot put a sign in my yard, b/c my husband cannot endorse a candidate or appear to. We do live on a military installation.
I understand that we all have different experiences, and there is lots of info out there I don't know about.
If anybody cares, my observations are: The military people I know will be voting for Romney, if they are white.
If they are AA, they will vote for our President. This transcends rank. In 2008, my neighbor was a Major of mixed race. When my
daughter babysat his children, the first thing she noticed was that he has Barack Obama's books on his bookshelf! (What a surprise!
Also, not all white Soldiers and Spouses will vote for Romney; just the majority. The older career Soldiers and wives will vote for
Romney. The younger wives and Soldiers who are not predominately religious or southern often like Obama.
We will know soon how this election will go. I am on pins and needles here. It is killing me. I lurk everyday here...I don't know if
I can make it until election day.

(38 posts)As a military man, I usually stand alone in my support of the President. There are, frankly, treasonous comments made constantly by all levels of the military against the president in every place that I serve. I've never been anywhere where I've been in the majority. I know, this is anecdotal, but the very few military democrats I do know offer the same anecdotal evidence.
