(14,177 posts)why are so many of bernie's supporters so
rude and hateful? bernie is not like that and i don't think he'd like his supporters to be.

(156,620 posts)It seems to me that in these days of pitched battles, it's easy to get heated and rude.
So much is at stake.
And I don't think I need to point out to you, or anyone, that being rude and hateful is not limited to Senator Sander's supporters. I've seen plenty of that from Madame Secretary's supporters too.
It's part of the human condition, I'm afraid.
We see someone we admire being attacked and we heat up and say things that we would not ordinarily say.
That's how I see it.

(14,766 posts)Let us see if we can get an honest answer....
Apparently Skinners thread last week was only a temporary fix. I so pine away for civil discussion. I myself may not agree or say what others want me to say...I'm just not feeling the Bern....I'm for Hillary.... I am proud to say it too. Bernie has good vision and makes good points but lacks Democratic tenure....nor does he have an action plan for implementing his talking points. So, Hillary is where I casted my vote...joyfully.
timmymoff
(1,947 posts)Does that mean he hasn't been a democrat? His principles are for more like a democrat than the one you support. You aren't going to build a stronger democratic party by requiring tenure. The millennials do not have tenure, the disenfranchised democrats from long ago wouldn't have the tenure either. I am glad I got to vote for the progressive of the two candidates. Donald Trump can not run to the left of Bernie on any issues, but he sure can run to the left of Hillary. That in itself should speak volumes.

(14,255 posts)and Bernie's supporters were called cockroaches, and someone was eagerly awaiting the day when Bernie's supporters would come crawling to the Hillary campaign. I have read more sheer nastiness from Hillary's supporters, so I think your OP is more than a little disingenuous. To be nice about it.
Oh, and you just called us all rude and hateful. tsk tsk.

(14,177 posts)I can go either way. In real life I am a PITA. I tend to be nicer online which a lot of people might be like "really" whoa I wouldn't want to be around you in real life then. Seriously I am nicer online. Words online can be forever. I try to keep that in mind. Plus, being online doesn't do my charm justice.

(11,649 posts)hillary. i never said anything rude about hillary or her supporters. i always said if she's the nominiee she'll get my vote. now i say the same about bernie.
sorry people said things like that.

(14,255 posts)make such sweeping statements. Because sweeping statements are never really all that sweeping, when inspected more closely.

(130,538 posts)There are assholes in all parts of the Internet but they are not "so many." The bad behavior of a few is noticed while the civil behavior of the majority is not. Some Hillary supporters have been so obnoxious that I had to put them on Ignore just to safeguard my blood pressure. But I do not assume or believe these are the majority.

(36,649 posts)They were victims of RW propaganda long before this election cycle began.
They also hated Obama before they hated Hillary. Some of them have never voted for a Democrat in their life, others, as you stated, bought into the RW crap way back when the first right wing trolls came to DU and started the "anti Obama" bunch and they have drank the Kool Aide.

(130,538 posts)Like most other Sanders supporters, I don't hate Clinton but just prefer Bernie because I believe he is the candidate who better represents my interests and concerns. And, speaking for myself, I'm very definitely not the victim of right-wing propaganda. My misgivings about Hillary have not been influenced by the right wing but by things she has actually said and done.
Oh, one more thing: I don't hate Obama, either. I like him and I voted for him twice.
timmymoff
(1,947 posts)and then Bernie Sanders entered the picture. Honesty entered the picture. A person not railing about Wall St. while gladly accepting their money. Integrity happened, and as Bernie laid out his stances, Hillary adopted them( conveniently). This is when I knew that she would say and do anything for the job. I have lost a large amount of respect I once had for her.
BillZBubb
(10,650 posts)Foolish me, I thought that was Hillary. Obviously it was right wing propaganda using a Hillary lookalike.
Oh, and someone else voted for the bankruptcy bill, but blamed Hillary! Or what about the decision to support the regime change in Libya? Somehow that Hillary lookalike got Obama's ear.
Welfare reform? Black predators? Crime bill? NAFTA?
Hillary didn't do any of that, it was all right wing propaganda. Sure.

(7,822 posts)I admit there are Bernie supporters who cross the line, but the demonization Bernie and his supporters started on day one and it's bullshit and I am sick of it. Civility is needed on both sides- this meme that Bernie supporters are defacto bad, rude people out to destroy the party? Not. Helpful.

(71 posts)Perhaps we are sick of Clinton dirty tricks starting with DNC which is supposed to be neutral. And we don't believe Hillary is a true progressive.
