(5,815 posts)It has not been lost on the Asian community that her campaign - and especially her supporters - have been basically calling Asians a bunch of jumped up white people as part of their cringeworthy SJW initiative.
Not only in this campaign, but in other local initiatives regarding college acceptance, affirmative action, and other issues. "Asians don't count!" is a common refrain in some real rotten quarters of Democratic politics when politicians want to pander to Latinos or African Americans, and that sentiment is definitely seeping in and leaving its stain over time.
Republicans may be the racist party, but damn if the regressive part of our party aren't trying to outdo them in sewing racial divisions within the party.

Up herein WA, you would have loved my Bernie supporters in my precinct. One Tibetan, one Latina, one Japanese American, two Muslim Pakistanis, an Aussie and two disable caucus goers mixed in with a wide range of White voters in age and gender. The Naturalized citizens were serious about this caucus. The Tibetan woman watched the Precinct captain like a hawk. Good thing, we found her whispering to the secretary (hill supporter) about the one woman who switched from Hill to Bernie...which actually changed the delegate count from being even to 3/1 in our favor.
The rest of the country doesn't get that our vista looks to the Pacific and all the people that a way. No AAs, but Hills side also had no minorities, and one girl under 45.
Can't wait to see how California shakes out.

(5,815 posts)Naw, I wasn't gone too, too long. Flagged for a handful of days because of two rapid hides, then jumped across country to spend time with the family for the holiday. Plus, it's hard to read here. The dishonesty, the nasty racial politics, and this week the faux feminism and hilarious stabs at tone policing while trying to objectify and slut shame Susan Sarandon. This is supposed to be a site for liberals, yeah?
It's really interesting how deep the Sanders support goes in my circle. My friends are mostly Asian, Latino, and African American, and they're all very invested in Bernie (and pissed as hell about the racial politics coming out of the Clinton campaign. Flatly put, they feel exploited and used (or ignored as far as my Asian friends and boyfriend are concerned)).
While at home, everyone was for Bernie. My strong union father and brother love him. My feminist mom said, "Finally, someone I like!" My Mexican sister-in-law really can't stand Clinton - she actually paid attention to Hillary's meddling in Latin America and attitude towards migrant children. (Amusing side note: her brother and his husband were visiting from Mexico, and their response to politics was, "Bernie, yes, but for the sake of all that is holy, JUST NOT TRUMP!"
.
I know I must live in the bubble, given polls and primary results, but it's just so odd I never hear Clinton support from anywhere but online and a little bit at work. It's feeling a bit like a Nixon election in that way. Eerie and a bit of a downer.
But, eh, it's not entirely over yet =)

(24,010 posts)...that he has created an android child, his own child, and Picard is telling Data he should have thought of the heavy responsibilities of parenthood FIRST, and should have consulted Picard before he did it, and Data replies, "Do humans ask your permission to conceive a child?"
Picard then buries his face in his hands, thinking of the complications to come, and not having an answer to Data's pristine logic--thence to one of the best episodes in Star Trek, about the human rights of all sentient beings.
Do recall from history that, at one time, most Europeans considered Africans and Native Americans, in particular, to be sub-human. Literally sub-human. Not fully human. Not entitled to human rights. Gene Roddenberry and Star Trek created many stories that attacked this persistent European prejudice--a prejudice that led to horrendous genocide and enslavement in the real world--and were highly successful, including artistically, in helping to educate young and old on this critically important historical truth and its persistent consequences.
Commander Data, with his perfect logic, and being a minority of one (a minority of two, while his daughter lived) would ask Clinton supporters and the Corrupt Media: Are not Pacific Islanders a minority in the USA? Are not Indigenous Alaskans a minority? Are not Asians a minority? Are not Latinos and African-Americans in the state of Washington minorities? Is Hawaii not a majority minority state? Did these minorities not ALSO vote in 70% to 80% percentages for Bernie Sanders, who is also a member of the class of minorities?
Data would vote for Bernie Sanders for President of the Federation, for sure. It's the logical choice. Don't know about Picard. (So emotional--but yeah, probably he would.)

(24,411 posts)It is revolting. It's also disingenuous. It's not organic support from real supporters like Bernie has.
So many of them Tweet and re-Tweet and then those Tweets are re-tweeted and passed along to other members of her digital-rapid-response team installed all over the Internet.
Most of them are paid and they communicate amongst each other, Tweeting and re-Tweeting for Hillary--attempting to help her make some sort of impact on social media. But they're all being paid.
Their Twitter feeds are all gummed up with Tweets from each other. It's like watching rats in an enclosed cage, dining on their own feces.

(154,021 posts)So I would ask well...the campaign.
Personally I am getting beyond tired of that shit.

(2,067 posts)I've lurked here for 15 years and almost without exception, discussions about needing diversity seem to focus almost entirely on whether a satisfactory number of African-Americans were included/invited or participated.
No LGBTQ, not gender, not economic status, not place of origin or nationality.
Skin hue.
I didn't use to believe in "white guilt" but more and more I think there's something to it.

(154,021 posts)It was hysterical when a poster here told me a Sanders event we covered was not diverse. It was pointed to him that many of those folks were Hispanic. Then the LGBT couples I know from working in the field, I could go on. Nope, it wasn't. That is when they were just starting with this shit. I think it is starting to seriously backfire though. And they do not get why either.

(27,275 posts)As if other POC don't count, and as if no black people are voting for Bernie. My cousin is a die-hard blue voter, but admits she doesn't like Hillary. If she thought Bernie had a chance, she would vote for him. That's a constant theme in my circle of friends and relatives who are black. They are not enthusiastic about Clinton, but they are adamantly against Republicans and believe she has the best chance of winning. I just keep providing information.

(154,021 posts)I think we are starting to see backlash though. The little dears can't understand why though

(27,275 posts)Have truly opened my eyes. The AA forum dominates here, but I truly found some black soulmates on facebook.

(154,021 posts)Ok hang out us not quite the word. But the younger community leaders are Bernie supporters. Their seniors are not. The dynamic is quite interesting. They opened my eyes as to divisions. It is not just age, but social class.

Oh my goodness. Lolos. What a crackup.
Good for him for recognizing.
Growing up here, in elementary school, my classmates were Hawaiian, Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Portugese, and haole. If we even thought about it. There was one black kid on the playground who was nice but he was a little kid.

And I was told by a few Hawaiians that Haole is not precisely a nice word. But it is a crackup when tourist buy the ever so popular "I am a Haole" hat, T-Shrt, what have you. Methinks this guy would wear it with well... pride.
mahina
(20,645 posts)Haole isn't an unkind word, unless preceded by 'fucking', which has to be earned. And so often is.

(154,021 posts)we saw that at the swap meet at the Stadium. Oh we started to crack up. Tourists had that puzzled look in their faces. Locals had smiles from ear to ear. Should we send this guy one of those? I vote for the hat.
Hey where else to buy Hawaiian shirts? Do that at the tourist traps (like Waikiki)? You nuts or what?
We should go visit family to Maui soon.
