2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumBacklash... to the type of campaign being run
I am starting to come across an increasing number of these pieces, (and don't get me started on the twitter)... but I suspect people are tired of the campaign. The kids in particular are far from impressed. (and they need to come out and well... vote, and more are doing it, but I digress)
This is from a young blogger. I present this as well, the backlash I am starting to see...For the record, many a times we have run audio and video in news stories of people with no voice, including youth, so that is partly what I am doing. I am not to debate whether he is right or not. I have seen the backlash starting though.
Mar 25 Privilege Is What Allows Clinton Supporters to Keep Supporting Her
When the overwhelming preference among young people for Bernie Sanders over Hillary Clinton first became apparent, old-school feminists like Madeleine Albright were quick to vote-shame younger women for abandoning the cause of feminism.
Now come the concerned citizens preemptively scolding supporters of Sanders who might be tempted to stay home if Clinton is on the ballot in November. Were told that we have a moral duty to vote for Clinton, that we are sexist if we dislike her, and that a refusal to vote for her would be an act of privilege because vulnerable people will be hurt if Trump wins.
Well. Lets talk about privilege and vulnerable people for a minute.
Theres no question that a Trump win would be a disaster. It would give a vain, unstable, and completely unqualified man great power and fan the flames of racism, violence, and xenophobia.
But if you are helping Hillary Clinton win the nomination, please dont talk to me about privilege. Because you are choosing, right now, in this moment, to support a candidate who is deeply disliked by independents, has historically bad favorability ratings, is under investigation by both the FBI and the NSA, and is running much worse in head-to-head polls with the Republicans than Bernie Sanders.

By the way, that celtic cross you use as an avatar. in current usage, you might want to consult the ADL, I mean that.

We never matter. I might have to show up to vote for MORE than just the minimum wage.

There is more, CNN is now starting, after declaring the Sanders campaign dead more times than I care to think, about HIS electability in November.
Now as to the backlash, it is real. Here is where you should worry. HRC is not creating any kind of real excitement. So you really cannot (yet) win that election in November without the voters you truly do despise.
And now the distance of you missing the point is at the galactic level. It is actually kind of cute.
Tarc

It's only a matter of time...
nadinbrzezinski
(154,021 posts)whatever, you keep missing the point of the backlash. (For the record, the campaign will take this to the convention)
As I said, it is kind of cute, and now your missing the point is intergalactic.
Tarc
(10,601 posts)but it doesn't work on the rest of us, I'm afraid.
There is not nor will there be a "backlash"; when Hillary is the nominee, he will endorse her and virtually all those who voted for him in the primaries will vote for her in the fall. A tiny and statistically insignificant number will not, and you all can go "backlash" each other behind closed doors to your heart's content.
Now, if you don't mind, have a seat on the ignore list for the night, as I'd like to browse the DU in peace & quiet for a few hours before bed.
nadinbrzezinski
(154,021 posts)you are talking to a non believer in any of this shit. We live in a compromised democracy, if I could call it a democracy, with pretend elections.
Nope, Sanders is not my candidate. You heard that right. Who I vote for is my fucking business. Nor do I expect it to count anyway. But I do not fall in love with candidates. You on the other hand, are insulting and behaving like a true believer. I mean that in the true textbook definition of the term.
You go ahead and continue to ignore the backlash. It is actually quite hysterical.
Oh and now you have missed the point to the edge of the known universe.

Morgan: Don't forget Frenchie.
Eddie: That's right. You and Harry and Frenchie. You know, you got to be careful of dead bees if you're goin' around barefooted, 'cause if you step on them they can sting you just as bad as if they was alive, especially if they was kind of mad when they got killed. I bet I been bit a hundred times that way.
Slim: You have? Why don't you bite them back?
Eddie: That's what Harry always says. But I ain't got no stinger.

(1,947 posts)Not even close. I do not want someone who gives up a minimum wage fight before it even starts. Hillary gave up three dollars to negotiate with before the battle even happened. Is it because of her donors? Is it because she won't really fight? Do most people try to negotiate from a weaker position in hopes of getting weaker results? I hardly want anything her platform of mediocrity offers.
