The D.C. Council will hold an emergency vote to put Bernie Sanders' name on the Democratic primary ballot after the D.C. Democratic Party submitted registration paperwork a day late and a voter filed a challenge, News4 has learned.
The D.C. Board of Elections determined the board cannot certify Sanders for inclusion on the June 14 primary ballot because the local Democratic party submitted his name, as well as Hillary Clinton's, one day after the legally binding deadline, sources closes to the board said.
A Democratic voter in D.C. filed a challenge against the Sanders campaign's registration. No complaint was filed against Clinton's registration. The period in which a challenge can be filed has passed. D.C. Council Member-at-Large Anita Bonds, who is chairwoman of the D.C. Democratic Party, is preparing emergency legislation to clear up the issue, which embarrassed party officials. The vote could occur as early as Tuesday.

(10,476 posts)Sanders is going to get crushed in the 75%-25% range, but he should at least be allowed a shot.

(146,284 posts)all the good that'll do him. But here's a question:
Why do candidates wait until the last day to file papers? That has never made sense to me. The one time I ran for elected office in California, I was at the office to file my papers on the FIRST day I could. In fact, I was there when the damned office opened.
Why wait until the last minute? It won't matter, of course. Sanders will be on the ballot. But the whole thing could have been avoided so very easily.

(14,923 posts)even though the D.C. Democratic Party submitted the registration paperwork one day late after the legally binding deadline for Bernie Sanders, AS WELL AS Hillary Clinton.
Why didn't the complainant file TWO complaints (Bernie & Hillary) instead of just one?
No one needs to say more......

(4,213 posts)How come if BOTH were submitted one day AFTER the deadline, HRC's name appears on the ballot, but Sanders's name does not?
This is either incompetence at the highest level OR DWS in action OR malfeasance extraordinaire.
