Related: About this forumWhy isn't Obama connecting the dots of how Romney was BAD for the MA Economy as Governor
He was 47 out of 50 in job creation as governor...one of the worst in the country.
It still baffles me why Obama and his team refuse to connect the dots of Bain Captial and his governing -- how he has no interest in the people but his own (making money for himself).
Can someone wake up the Obama campaign and let them know about this OBVIOUS tactic because from what i see most voters just think Romney is a business man wh would be good for the economy (recall that polls show a big margin in his favor).

(333 posts)THIS!!!!!!!!! This is ONE of the things I was thinking about when I commented on Obama not pointing out things relevant to the economy. He had a GREAT second debate, but when Romney kept talking about his record in Mass., I kept thinking about that 47 in job creation and was thinking why Obama didn't bring it up. He could bring that up even on the stump, but all we hear is something silly like ROMNESIA.

(56,198 posts)because people aren't happy with the economy, virtually any discussion on the topic helps rmoney.
as rmoney attacks, obama has to defend, and sure, as one defense point, he could bring up how sucky rmoney was for massachusetts.
but (a) most people blame "the" economy, period, on the president, despite the impact governors can have on their state's economy and despite the overstated impact the president has;
(b) rmoney can easily dismiss any attack by blaming it all on democrats -- it is massachusetts, after all, and its reputation is wildly liberal and therefore the much of the rest of the country (especially rmoney's base and swing voters) thinks it must but some screwed up commune so of course the economy sucks;
(c) rmoney can ridiculously easily pivot to the national economy which matters more to critical voters and for which rmoney has zero blame and the only person they can blame is obama.
finally, it's a perfectly logical and sensible argument, which is probably the most daming reason of all that it can't be effectively used in modern american politics.

Other Republican Governors like Bill Weld and Paul Celluci did much better. What's wrong with Mitt?
He should be using this line of attack.

(333 posts)That's what people want to hear. Tearing Romney down just isn't working.Obama's done some good things to bring us out of such a bad economy. Sure, the economy is still bad, but it was worst overall. Tell us how or what he's going to do for the next four years to make things better. Romney is steady talking about the economy and you know what? It's working. No matter how Obama supporters keep talking about his lies or how he flip flops, his message is working, because he's talking about the ECONOMY and Obama is not. His flip floppiing doesn't seem to bother people. PEOPLE WANT TO KNOW HOW IS THIS ECONOMY GOING TO IMPROVE. I feel like the ship is sinking and a clue isn't becoming clear, until the end. Lay off Romnesia.Please catch the clue soon.

(56,198 posts)i think the economy isn't nearly as bad today as republicans wish it were, and the obama campaign would have been well serve had it done more to rebut this attack earlier in the campaign. it was probably wise to keep quiet, though, in case the economy took a turn for the worse (the double-dip recession was feared). but now that the economy actually looks like it's improving, democrats are on much better footing.
but we're in that range where the economy isn't so weak republicans can win running on it, but not so strong that democrats can win running on it either.
in any event, it's rather late in the campaign to launch an initiative about obama being good for the economy. it's good and appropriate for him to defend his record, though, and he can cite some good recent numbers, e.g., in a debate context. but it is defensive.

(2,730 posts)The information is already out there through the media and newspapers. Look at the endorsements Obama is getting. MSNBC has continuously been beating that horn. How many people do you think watch it? CNN and FOX want go near it but that is news on one candidate. This is why I add CNN to the bias category. Why want CNN do a story on sensata? This reveals they are hiding information negative to Romney but yet they go on a goose chase in Libya.

(34,294 posts)However, for voters to get the message it needs to be repeated. It needs to be simple. Romney is saying he's going to create 12 million jobs and balance the budget.
How hard is this to put these 5 points on a cue card for a 30 second ad.
1. Ranked 47th in job growth: Despite Romneys professed expertise in creating jobs, Massachusetts ranked 47th in job growth during his time as governor.
2. Suffered the second-largest labor force decline in the nation: Only Louisiana, which was ravaged by Hurricane Katrina in 2005, saw a bigger decline in its labor force than Massachusetts during Romneys tenure as governor.
3. Lost 14 percent of its manufacturing jobs:
4. Experienced below average economic growth and was often near the bottom:
5. Piled on more debt than any other state: Romney left Massachusetts residents with $10,504 in per capita bond debt, the highest of any state in the nation when he left office in 2007.
