2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumIs Hillary Clinton Running Away From Political Reality?
Team Hillary should be extremely worried.
Its not just that she has suffered landslide losses in the past five caucus states. Its that shes overwhelmingly lost the youth vote of all colors, everywhere, and shell never get it back.
As this new Wisconsin poll shows: Sanders leads Clinton 49% to 43%. Sanders leads among all African-Americans 51% to 40%. Sanders leads among 18 to 45 year olds 65% to 28%.]
Not only is the youth vote incredibly one-sided, but so is the enthusiasm. Hillarys vulnerabilities with young people include her perceived untrustworthiness, her emails, her vote for the Iraq War, and her shape-shifting establishment politics. But it all gets wrapped up into what she derogatively calls Bernies single issue Wall Street.

(1,054 posts)"Such a political revolution is the prerequisite for everything else - reversing climate change, overcoming structural racism, rebuilding the middle class, achieving equal opportunity and upward mobility for the poor, and avoiding cataclysmic war.
Hillary cant abide by this revolution because it requires a full scale assault on Wall Street, which lavishly has funded her and her campaigns. So she tries to denigrate Bernies stance by claiming that his focus on Wall Street-driven runaway inequality is merely a single issue:
If we broke up the big banks tomorrow would that end racism? Would that end sexism? Would that end discrimination against the L.G.B.T. community? Would that make people feel more welcoming to immigrants overnight.
Her line of attack not only is failing, but also reveals why young people are so unenthusiastic about her shes far too tied to Wall Street and the super-rich to ever break from them."

(290 posts)That all of these lists are getting to hard to ignore. I went down the email rabbit hole last night and I am just appalled at her attitude, so blase. And then to watch her last night go off on that girl, well it reminded me of people in my life I try to stay away from. Twenty years ago I could have been that activist. There's the finger wagging, which is annoying to be sure, but then there is the incessant lying. I just feel like my intelligence is being tested at every turn and that is not comforting.

"What really drives elections, especially now, is enthusiasm.
The sad fact for Team Hillary is that Bernie has it and she doesnt. As that spirit comes pouring out from our kids, it becomes infectious. Its political gold, not to be squandered. Without it, anything can happen including Hillary losing to a Republican."
"Here are the hard, cold facts driving this election. The vast majority of Americans detest Wall Street and runaway inequality. Bernie has earned the right to lead that charge... and young people know it."

(290 posts)One of the most difficult things about this election is being right at the older end of being a millennial. That enthusiasm is such a mutli-faceted thing. Thanks for highlighting the parts which were meaningful to you!

Wasn't it something like 400 votes in Utah? A real landslide for the Berners

(1,377 posts)Where you just kidding about 400?
Progressive dog
(7,612 posts)and she is way ahead in delegate count.
Zira
(1,054 posts)The DNC admits they made those delegates to prevent grass roots change.
Perhaps you should read the article. It's not that long and that is the best pieces on Hillary that I have read.
Progressive dog
(7,612 posts)and is over 2 million ahead in popular vote. This is winning, in a Democracy.
Minorities don't get to set party rules, and neither do independents.
Gwhittey
(1,377 posts)And Sanders is trailing by 228. That is not way ahead. If she had 600 maybe but 228 is very possible considering that only place Hillary has gone is down in polls. from 80% up to now even.

(9,841 posts)If they persist, Bernie is going to have to make it part of his stump speech that there are several states in which he beats her in EVERY ethnic group. There are NO states where Hillary can say the same. So much for her having diverse appeal.
