What the Kerfuffle over Fossil Fuel Money tells us

When Bernie Sanders speak about money from the fossil fuel industry, he doing in the way most people who are not highly political would understand it. Money coming through PACs, from individuals in the industry, from lobbyists for the industry, or even for speeches paid for by the industry would, in normal everyday discourse, be understood as fitting that category.

Hillary Clinton, on the other hand, speaks like a careful politician, parsing each nuance so that she sound like she is addressing the issue (e.g., of fossil fuel industry donations), but without really making the commitment that constituents are asking for. What this means is that we have to approach her entire platform in this way. She says there have to be worker protections in TPP before she will support it. Well, there are protections of this kind in NAFTA but they don't mean a thing because they are virtually unenforced. She didn't say she was going to demand sanctions or other mechanisms for the enforcement of these provisions, so we should presume that she will not. Everything in her platform is carefully and vaguely worded so she can wiggle out of the perceived commitment. We can therefore only assume that she will do what she's done in the past and that is act in pro-corporate, hawkish ways, while making some liberal moves on social issues.

Kind of like how she always talks about the Dodd-Frank bill and Wall Street. But it's never put ONE banker in jail. Not one.

But if you don't trust a person, the caution doesn't matter anyway. Especially not in a representative of the people.

Integrity matters.

That's according to his own standards for truthfulness.

Lots of GE and Boeing donations.
