Mickey for President!
There was the odd tenure of one Mickey Mouse
The aptly dressed rodent who won the White House
With first lady, Minnie, who was all the rage
The two of them owned the national stage
You might rightly ask what prompted this mouse
To seek residence in the nation’s first house
But even the critics were quick to admit
This mouse and his spouse were a perfect fit
Many mortal men tried to tackle this job
A task that compelled them to grieve and to sob
But Mickey’s quick chuckle and cheery outlook
Convinced all the voters he had what it took
But beyond his buoyant and cool attitude -
the fact that ol’ Mickey had never been rude
There was the deft hope he would bring an end
To the bickering rancor that had been the trend
The votes that had poured in from across the land
Spoke to the steadiness of Mickey’s hand
A rodent, they reasoned, would serve them quite well
To give the rats in the congress hell
He’d skitter about ‘neath the elephants heel
And cause them to panic – to stampede and squeal
The donkeys would bray and bolt with great fear
And all would admit the new boss was here.
And that’s just how it went as his tenure played out
That the mouse was the boss just wasn’t in doubt
And the staid senate weasels and each congress rat
Passed bills by the hundreds and that was just that!
