(5,946 posts)the subway system has changed quite a bit, but being in California, you would not know that, those of us who live and ride the subway understand. I personally loved the token remark. that would be so me, ha ha . Yes it is a ticket now, and annoying ticket, I miss tokens, Tokens were so much easier to use, never failed because they expired, never failed to read because of a crease, but if you ask me I might say token.
So no lie there, just a displacement of time, and not as much time as you might think. serious,. if you are going to look for liars, I can tell you where to look.
Cali_Democrat
(30,439 posts)I didn't use a token.
Bernie lied and said you have to use a token to ride the subway.
How exactly am I showing my NYC ignorance? Bernie is the one showing his ignorance.
hollysmom
(5,946 posts)you know not of tokens. I have 5 different types of tokens saved from this very subway system.
Cali_Democrat
(30,439 posts)I've been to New York City at least 10 different times.
Did people have to use tokens prior to the card? Yes.
But Bernie doesn't know that tokens have been phased out.
He tried to pretend like he knew how to ride the subway and got called out.
SusanCalvin
(6,592 posts)So he described it the way he remembered it. He's not required to keep up-to-the-minute (or even the decade) on the details of subway riding.

(11,996 posts)Millions and millions from lobbyists going to campaigns, and THIS concerns you?
Yeesh - And Hillary feels sorry for Bernie supporters.
Carolator
(79 posts)And that he goes back quite a ways, remembering tokens for the Subway.
Hillary would never deign to ride the Subway, of course. Not enough room for her SS entourage of "pigs", as she and Bill and Chelsea so charmingly refer to the men paid to guard them.

(68,203 posts)When I took the subway a couple of years ago I had to face the machine for the card and I was nonplussed. I have ridden the subway in Paris and London and I was never really quite as puzzled. I just think I knew the NYC subways better, and I clearly did not.

hillary's international press corp - now some two months without a question/answer with her - travels in a separate plane and is not allowed to watch/report/record her walk the few short steps in to or out of her plane
in actuality, bill 'n hill prefer livery service via yellow cab medallion:

He thought that he knew how to get on the subway. Because things had changed, he was mistaken. He didn't know that it had changed. That's a lack of knowledge, not a lie.

(5,946 posts)1. all trains renamed pretty much, routes changed, and tokens have passed to cards, automated ticket booths, I always have a problem because they are charging for these cards now and I don't always ride the subway in the city,I walk a lot and ticket expire, then I have to buy a new one. Annoying.

(5,946 posts)so how it is a lie? more outdated information - lies are people who claim they are progressives when they are not, when they are to the right of Richard Nixon.

(5,946 posts)i might call it a couple of years ago, that does not always mean 2 years to me. time has a way of flying when you get older.

(5,946 posts)when you live over 70 it is very easy I tell you they all sort of blur together, or if someone said they would take care of it for him and he just walked through
when I took my 30 year old niece on the subway recently I paid and swiped for her, it happen you don't always do it yourself. She was just used to taking taxis, but since she lost her job, I was trying to teach her the way to get around cheaper. It didn't take, some young ones are just not savers. (or I am just cheap)

(6,960 posts)What a pressing issue. I'm sure all of America is concerned that Bernie is not aware that tokens are not longer used. Big woo.

(1 post)Hey, The article is wrong. Don't go all Grandpa on Bernie. The NYC subway page still sells tokens and Metrocards. Take the egg off your face and focus on the real issues. No to Hillary "Ms. Wall Street 2016" Clinton. Ganging up on Bernie shows snarky desperation. Many of the internet stories read like Frat Party 2.0 insults when the writers ran out of legitimate stories. Bernie on a token v. Hillary and her Wall Street Friends and violation of email policies. Are you kidding?
Go Bernie.

(1,235 posts)Is this the same top notch interview team that had no clue you can break up monopolies and trusts in America (several paths can be taken) then played it as though not being specific on all the minor details was evidence that Sanders didn't know you can't break up companies for monopolistic and anti-trust activities?

(4,982 posts)He is a New Yorker.
He hasn't lived there in many years.
I am going to hazard a guess that Hillary doesn't have a clue how to ride the subway or even how to hail a cab in NY. I also would bet she doesn't know how to get around her "OTHER" "HOMETOWNS" without some help too.
The subway/Tube/Undergrounds are very different from one city to another. So what if he doesn't know how to traverse the tube system in NYC today. So what??
But, I bet he could name all the tube stops he used to take all those years ago.
People see him out and about and he is much more accessible than Hillary.
He is closer to the life of the 99% than Hillary has been since she was in her 30's.

(10,749 posts)I left NYC in 1972. I don't have a fucking clue how to tide the subway. Or the BART in SF. Or the MTA in Boston. So what. Bernie is pretty smart. I'm sure he can figure it out quickly. Please, oh god please, stop this shit!
