(110,159 posts)can get his free college and health care off the backs of the workers burden to pay the taxes for that free college and health care. seems like a deal to all those that graduate from college and then doesn't get a real paying job for a couple decades. Can play in Marxism and socialism and hook up one electricity to a landlords outlet. Quite the deal.

When you invest in people and educate them, they get good jobs and make more money. When they make more money they pay more taxes than were spent on thier education...
And if they did manage to 'take a decade off' (assuming they dont require.. oh.. FOOD or anything) when they do go to work they.... wait for it... pay taxes.

(23,867 posts)It's the fact that we have a military which is literally ten times the size it should/could ought to be.
Our problems are not financial. They're political. We have the money.
It's the same question you asked, just looking at it from the perspective of fairness. Right now things aren't fair, or we wouldn't have such a great income difference.

(24,978 posts)They're paying for it because they can, and because they've reaped all the benefits of our hard work for decades. Also, hill, no one claimed that the one percenters would get anything, let alone Bernie. But I guess that's what is really bothering you.
hill2016
(1,772 posts)can pay for the other 99% of the people? Health care, college, social security?
NO. The maths only works if the middle class pays more in taxes. Which Bernie has NEVER been honest about.

(15,189 posts)When our government can spend $43 million on a gas station in Afghanistan then they most certainly can help us Americans out. When our government build tanks we won't use they can give us some money. When corporations like Wal Mart can hire for dirt wages and use our system to feed their employees, they can be taxed more.
It's time the very rich pay.

Who pays? Who can POSSIBLY afford such largesse, especially given that we cant possibly cut the billions of dollars we spend every year putting people in prison for shit like pot smoking, or the trillion or so we spend on the military.
Verily. Its a conundrum, wherever will we find all that money?

statements like this.
Our government has made horrendously bad fiscal and foreign policy decisions over the last two decades. Decisions that have crippled the country economically and left us with gross income equality and 46.5 muon people living in poverty. Our foreign policy decisions have destabilized and armed most of the middle east and created ISIS.
Bernie Sander's votes, sentiments and heart have been on the right side of virtually all of these decisions.
I recall reading some articles back in November about the Air Force running out of bombs to drop on ISILand ISIS. If I recall the government had spent $1.25 bIllion on bombs since August of 2014 when the bombing campaign started All because our leadership made disastrous foreign policy choices. How many trillions of dollars have these bad decisons cost us ? Whst is the global death toll from these wars ? Would in just that small example, that $1.25 bIllion been better spent here ? Our government is throwing people who desperately need help of food stamps etc..
Its time to stop defending ing the status quo.
I'm going to vote for the guy who makes the wise political choices.
There is never a problem finding the money to bail out crooked financial institutions, or dole out corporate welfare, our to fund the perpetual wars that our establishment politicians lead us into to, but there is no money to invest in the people if this country..
We need a change in thinking and in leadership.
