Related: About this forumThanks To CA Voting Rules, TICKED OFF California Independents Can Make Bernie Sanders a BIG WINNER

Us old Bernie Broads and every other Bernie supporter gotta hang on until the Golden State. Bernie Sanders is slowly chopping away at Hilarys lead. The last Quinnipac poll for New York shows that Clinton holds a 54% to 42% lead, while the Quinnipac Pennsylvania poll showed Clinton at 50% and Sanders at 44%. This puts Bernie in striking distance in PA, and he may still close the gap substantially in New York. The NY contest looks to be the nastiest primary fight the Democrats have seen in a long time. Bernie may take PA by a decent margin, though.
All this makes the Democratic primary more addictive than meth for politics junkies, and Its quite possible that neither candidate will have enough pledged delegates to clinch the nomination by California. California voting rules mean Bernie could dominate California, with its 475 delegates. According to Observer.
In other words, if Mr. Sanders is within striking range of Ms. Clinton in elected delegates before California votes there is a legitimate chance he could overtake her with a significant victory in California, in which case the issue of the super-delegates would become a cause célèbre throughout the Democratic party and the media...

In other words, every California voter who who is angry at the establishment and who wants to make a statement has no alternative but to vote for Bernie. They cant vote for Trump. An open primary that lets independents vote is much more representative of how a general election will go than a closed primary. Bernies been the clear winner in open primaries. California is semi-open, which may not be the best case scenario for Bernie, but a semi-open primary is better than a closed primary.
As the Pew Research Center showed, more than 40% of Americans are independent voters. They have no party affiliation, and Bernie does much better with them than Hillary. In Wisconsin, independent voters preferred Bernie over Hillary by 72% to 28%. (CNN) None of this will make the coming weeks any easier for Bernie supporters. Theres much work to be done, and many voters to be registered for most of the remaining primaries and caucuses.
But if it was easy, politics wouldnt be fun, would it?

(1,000 posts)she knows that if she doesn't shake things up somehow she's going to lose yet again
she's got to do something
and that's really all she and her staff know how to do
so no matter how risky the tactic, and how obvious to everyone else that it's going to backfire spectacularly, this is the only card in her hand and she's going to play it
just like she played the race card against Obama
"I can't believe Sen. Clinton would say anything that dumb," Rangel told The News as he headed to the House floor, where earlier he had embraced Obama.

(61,033 posts)Even if he does ok in Cali in June, Clinton will also get a ton of delegates there so after her haul in NY, MD and PA, it will be just about over.

(61,033 posts)Sanders hasn't done that well in most diverse states. We all know that from following the election so far.
My real point is Clinton will get a ton of delegates from California, Sanders possibly as well, but it won't be enough to close the gap that she will still have, especially after her east coast haul in NY, MD, and PA.

(24,010 posts)To vote for Bernie Sanders, YOU MUST BE REGISTERED AS "NO PARTY PREFERENCE (formerly known as "Decline to State"
http://www.sos.ca.gov/elections/political-parties/no-party-preference/
http://www.sos.ca.gov/elections/voter-registration
This needs to be posted in several places at DU (including GD: P, California Forum, Bernie Forum, where else?) and repeated regularly as the deadline approaches. Sanders could lose lots of potential votes from Independents if they don't get this info and re-register.
I can't do this right now. Does someone else want to take it up? Later in April, I'll check from time to time to make sure this info gets posted and re-posted at DU.

(154,021 posts)more than just a large chunk of the local volunteers are Latino...
Hell, one of his first fans, that was on May 1, of last year... mayday parade, was a newly minted citizen from Culiacan. She was also going to vote Morena in the Mexican elections... she was beyond excited to have a left wing candidate running for office in her first election in the United States. Look at the date again.
I met her at the launch party here in San Diego... beyond committed. She is also volunteering for the campaign of a local Sanders dem running for city hall. Those are the stories that you can only find about if you cover this shit.
That was the same event that I was challenged here by the usual crowd, that the crowd at the North Park theater was just a bunch of white college kids. Ah the beginning of the racist shit we have seen.

(9,855 posts)I just got off the phone with County Voters Registration.
One need to put the "/" in MM/DD/YYYY.
Also one needs to enter either last four digits of SS# or DL#.
DL# worked but not SS# when I tried internet online while on the phone.
I have been a voter at same address since 2003 and only have vote by mail as live voting was stopped several years ago as very rural.
So I am still registered to vote and person told me getting many similar calls for same reason.
Here is where to check one's CA Voter Registration Status.

(1,901 posts)Pissed off progressives, both registered Dems who do not like what he's doing to their party and Independents who understand why Dems are important at all levels of government will add a few more nails to the coffin of his failed presidential bid.
The sheer desperation that is fueling the negative dishonesty and nastiness he's engaging in, has already harmed him. You folks in the echo chamber don't seem to understand what he, his surrogates and you dedicated followers are doing to yourselves.
But hey, please proceed, and unmask yourselves for what you are, you're unifying progressives against this demagoguery.
