"When Hillary Clinton supporter Kim Frederick created the hashtag #HillarySoQualified, the premise was simple enough. Clinton allies would tweet about her various accomplishments in public office and unite their efforts under the hashtag
Unfortunately for Frederick and other Clinton boosters, the campaign quickly went downhill before spiraling completely out of control after the hashtag was hijacked by supporters of Bernie Sanders. By early Thursday, a constellation of anti-Clinton forces were using it as a dumping ground for Clinton transgressions both real and imagined. "

(7,231 posts)There is something gratifying about the way David Brock's best efforts seem to backfire spectacularly. Clinton is campaigning as if the 20th century never ended - and now the 21st century is hitting her campaign right in the face, over and over again, because she keeps staring at that imagined continuation of that 20th century. As usual, she is the last to admit the error of her ways.

CoffeeCat
(24,411 posts)why her campaign begins these hashtags on Twitter? They completely lose control of them, and suddenly #HillarySoQualified is trending with hundreds of thousands of searing comments about her.
From a strategy viewpoint, her campaign just needs to stay away from Twitter. Especially when Clinton and her surrogates are lobbing non-stop, ridiculous, baseless attacks against Bernie. People have social media to fight back and say, "Oh no you don't!" And Bernie supporters should speak out. We don't have to sit there and take it.
I often feel that her campaign lacks a basic understanding of social media.
You can't just lob grenades at your opponent and think that's the end of it. That is soooooo 2000. That reality doesn't exist anymore.
Did they learn nothing from #tonedownforwhat? LOL!
I think it's awesome! It's the power of the people. It's Bernie supporters expressing their views and countering the bullshit.
I scrolled through the #HillarySoQualfied responses and they were quite damaging and list criticisms of so many of her policies, actions and ideas. To think that her side started #HillarySoQualfied--and to see the state of it now---it's quite interesting!

(1,089 posts)and from what I've read there are far too many sycophants surrounding her.
That said, I don't know who this woman is or if she works with the HRC campaign. If she does she should be fired. When you assume everyone loves HRC, stepping into the veritable minefield that is social media is only going to lead to a very public bursting of said bubble. This is pretty much guaranteed to happen. All of us obviously spend time on the innertubes. All of us obviously understand that there will always be a hater or two or a million out there.
I help manage people's and companies' social media presences among other things. You know what you simply have to do before you venture into that swamp? Assume what the worst thing could be in terms of a response and plan for it. Then decide whether a posting is worth it.
I'm guessing the acolytes at HRC headquarters skipped that step if they had anything to do with this latest failure of a hashtag. If so, it's one of the most basic, dumbest mistakes anyone who manages social media presences could make.
CoffeeCat
(24,411 posts)and how the Clinton camp has handled social media is deplorable.
They seem to get bitten constantly, by social media.
Look at her, "Where was Bernie Sanders when I was working on healthcare" comment. LOL! Does she even realize what the Internet is, and that it takes ten seconds to find a picture of Bernie standing behind her, supporting her healthcare initiatives?
It's at the point where she opens her mouth and her words embarrass her and become memes.
She also purchased Facebook likes and fake Twitter followers. Ok...that's great. But what you end up with is fake numbers and NO online support when she needs it. Shouldn't her efforts be directed to meaningful social-media strategizing? Fake Facebook likes...seriously?

(7,804 posts)They don't understand it at all. I've been harping on for years about how social media doesn't work the same way as a propagation system, whenever you put anything out there it's instantly paired with a counterargument. It works in small enclaves like friends lists on facebook where most individuals still adhere to tribal pressure, mostly because they know the individuals personally that they are communicating with and would prefer to avoid political mash-ups with friends and family (although not exclusively) but Twitter is HOPELESS at getting political messages out and actually getting them to stick, it's far, far too volatile.

(1,737 posts)or with a bigger crowd doesn't make an argument more true. This isn't an online popularity contest. The only popularity that counts is at the polls and she has that down pat, thank you. If only he could transpose internet gangster's comments into real votes.....oh well maybe next time.

(4,377 posts)She has more pledged delegates and more actual vote than he does. So far she is the Democrats choice for President by millions of votes and now that the Sanders camp has finally come to that realization they are resorting to blatant lies. Sad. I really used to admire this guy. The desperation is showing.
Kentonio
(4,377 posts)In a race where each candidate is likely to appeal more to different state demographics, it doesn't really mean a lot when one nominee wins their states earlier. If she manages to hold him off until the end, then fair play to her she'll have earned it, no matter how much I'll disagree with the choice. Until then though, we simply don't know who will turn out to be the more popular, especially with powerhouses like NY and CA to come.
Sunsky
(1,737 posts)However, I believe the voters will show that her "most favorable states" are not all behind us and there are some big ones ahead. Hopefully the party will unite when this is all done. We will see.

(4,377 posts)Exactly the same thing happened then as is happening now. Do you really think it was Obama who chose to go negative back then? Yet supposedly Bernie frikkin Sanders, one of the sweetest, kindest politicians in Washington has suddenly revealed himself to be an evil Machiavellian? Really? Does that honestly sound realistic or plausible to you?
Sunsky
(1,737 posts)I was leaning towards Sanders for that reason because of my disdain for Hillary during the 08 elections.
This is an indicator that desperation is setting in the Sanders camp because now it's reeking of the same stench of the 08 elections. I thought he was better than this honestly. All I want is for Sanders supporters to be honest and your response now is the most honest I have seen. Hillary is nt perfect, he is not perfect and he did lie or should I say bend the truth. That being said if it's a choice between him and Trump/Cruz, I'll vote for Bernie even though I'm mad as heck.
I believe he is going to look back at this moment with regret.
Kentonio
(4,377 posts)He's certainly not perfect by any means, and I think the interview where she refused to answer whether he was qualified for president (while strongly implying that he wasn't) and also implying that he only attacked Dems but not Republicans (because he's not a 'real' Democrat you know..) made him angry and lash out. I wish he'd held his temper, because it turned out to be a trap, and she's now playing the innocent while making out he's all mean and nasty.
There's only been one occasion where I think I caught him in a lie (I honestly can't remember what the subject was, it was something small in an interview) and it was noticable because he's very bad at it. The same as he's very bad at trying to be artificially crowdpleasing (as the 'world peace' comment after the bird flew off showed). What I don't believe he is though is that he is a liar in the normal course of things, which is the main reason I support the man. I genuinely cannot think of a single accusation he's thrown at Hillary (this angry 'qualified' nonsense aside) which doesn't have at least some basis in fact, even though the context and conclusion may be up for debate. One of the reasons Bernie fans got so angry early on was because the same was very much not true from the other side, when the sly implications about Bernie being sexist or racist were coming from the Clinton camp. No matter what you think of him as a potential POTUS, the idea that a guy with his history could be either was just offensive and laughable.
Anyway that's just my take on things, I realize you probably see things differently.

(1,737 posts)Hail the gentle warrior St. Bernard. I believe Bernie supporters/surrogates belittled african americans- by insinuating that we aren't smart enough to make an informed vote therefore the Bernie lecturers had to educate us. This is one of the many reasons I switched my vote to Hillary. I found lectures very condescending and I have yet to hear St. Bernard correct this. I have never heard Hillary playing the race card.
Next- Oh Bernie, the way he spoke to his wife the other day reminded me of some of the male chauvinistic pigs I work with daily wow. It was quite telling; I guess Clinton made him do that as well. When will Bernie stop deflecting and take responsibility for his actions?
The idea that Bernie is anything other than another politician that is what is laughable. In fact we have now seen that Bernie is all talk but have no clear cut solutions. I think I made the right decision in voting for Hillary.
Kentonio
(4,377 posts)I'm not surprised you found it condescending, it was very difficult to read even for a white person. Sanders has several times called out supporters for going too far, but its important to remember that he won't be seeing most of this stuff, and he's kind of busy to be running around correcting random idiots on the internet. He's sure as hell never made any statements condescending to black voters, if he had I probably wouldn't be a supporter.
As for the wife thing, a single annoying exchange between a couple that have been married for nearly 30 years is a ridiculous way to judge someones values, and frankly I'm disappointed that you'd buy into that unpleasant crap.
Sunsky
(1,737 posts)so that his surrogates can go out and belittle a whole demographic (one in which he's having problems reaching at the moment) and he doesn't have a clue that this is happening, ok. That's disturbing to me. What exactly is he doing to reach out to the AA community? If he happens to win the nomination, this lack of outreach will be a huge issue come November. I'm a dedicated Democrat and will vote for whomever is at the top of our ticket but I tell you this, Sanders has a problem with my community. I have numerous older generation family members who thinks he's a fraud like Trump. The think his supporters mirror Trump supporters. These are conversation I have daily.
I don't think the wife issue is just a single annoying exchange. I believe that it is telling of what goes on behind closed doors. Hopefully I'm wrong but that's between him and his wife.
I must commend you though for having a civil discourse.
Kentonio
(4,377 posts)As for him and Jane, their relationship certainly is just between them, and this idea that one unclear exchange is 'telling' is a smear tactic. Please don't stoop to that level, I consider it the same as people criticizing Hillary for not leaving Bill after the shenanigans back then, which is equally vile as an attack.
Sunsky
(1,737 posts)but I've watched AA in the south being lectured about the crime bill, which was voted yes by Senator Sanders not Sec. Clinton who was first lady at the time. I've watched it being said that northern blacks have more command of the issues than us southern blacks. I've watched Senator Sanders himself speak about ghettos and poverty as if they were exclusively black.
I've listened to Sen Sanders trying to have a primary opposition to the first AA president.
I've listened to Sen. Sanders using the term political revolution as if to say we didn't have a political revolution in 08. I happen to think President Obama has done a phenomenal job despite unprecedented opposition. He is very level headed and that is what we are looking for in his successor.
I've listen to Sen Sanders criticism of the ACA as if he has no understanding of how Washington works. We all know President Obama was for universal health care. However, due to the political climate, that was the best we could've accomplish at the time. Sen. Sanders all or nothing approach is counter productive and can lead to victory for the status quo.
I have listened to him pivot to his stump speech on the economy regardless of the question at hand. I'm still waiting to hear how he plans to pay for these.- free college, universal health care, breaking the banks. The economy has improved tremendously under the Obama administration, I fear if we do not have a steady well thought out plan we'll go over the cliff this time. I believe Sen. Clinton has more realistic solutions. Yes we want free college, universal health care and for the banks to be broken up but we do understand that it will not happen overnight, it may not happen in one term. This is another reason I switched my vote to Hillary.
These are some of the reasons many in my community says that he doesn't pass the smell test, he's a fraud and will not vote for him.
As for comparing the Sanders disrespectful act towards his wife on national tv to the criticism of Hillary for not leaving Bill after his indiscretion. I don't think that comparison is correct. I have yet to hear anyone saying anything negative towards Jane. I happen to think she's one of his best surrogates.
However, it was all we could talk about at work the day after because in my line if work we face men treatment like that from men very often. It was a very low point in his campaign.

(10,559 posts)how do you handle the constant stream of it from the Hillary camp?
My current favorite involved subpoenas and classified information on email. She keeps saying "there was no classified information on my emails, and if there was, it's because they changed it later" but the (independent) Inspector General says that is not true - and we've got the leaked letter in PDF form on the Internet to prove it.
Then there is the whole subpoena nonsense - why lie about something so easily proven?
House Republicans Release The Subpoena Hillary Clinton Said She Never Received For Her Emails, The Huffington Post, July 8, 2015 http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2015/07/08/hillary-clinton-emails-_n_7756106.html
WASHINGTON One day after Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton said she never had a subpoena for the emails she sent while secretary of state, House Republicans on Wednesday released a document appearing to contradict her namely, the subpoena theyd served Clinton earlier this year.
During an interview with CNNs Brianna Keilar on Tuesday, Clinton said that other secretaries of state had done the same thing as her in the past. Keilar replied, They used a personal server, and while facing a subpoena, deleted emails from them?"
You know, youre starting with so many assumptions, Clinton responded. Ive never had a subpoena, theres nothing again, lets take a deep breath here.
(snip)
When Clinton on Tuesday said shed never had a subpoena, that appears to be contradicted by the subpoena House Republicans issued her in March. But it depends on what the meaning of the word had is. A Clinton campaign spokesperson told The Huffington Post that she had already destroyed the emails in question before the subpoena was received. Clinton turned over some emails to the State Department in late 2014 and then wiped her personal server clean so by the time the subpoena arrived in March, there was nothing for it to act on.
And then to see an actual copy of the subpoena (it even has the heading "SUBPOENA" in all caps) she was served on March 4, 2015 go here -
http://benghazi.house.gov/sites/republicans.benghazi.house.gov/files/Kendall.Clinton%20Subpoena%20-%202015.03.04.pdf
Keep in mind ALL the government records including the ones she TRIED TO HAVE DELETED have since been retrieved by the FBI.
Unbeknownst to Clinton, IT firm had emails stored on cloud; now in FBIs hands, McClatchy DC, October 3, 2015 http://www.mcclatchydc.com/news/nation-world/national/article37968711.html
WASHINGTON A Connecticut company, which backed up Hillary Clintons emails at the request of a Colorado firm, apparently surprised her aides by storing the emails on a cloud storage system designed to optimize data recovery.
The firm, Datto Inc., said Wednesday that it turned over the contents of its storage to the FBI on Tuesday.
A Republican Senate committee chairman, Wisconsin Sen. Ron Johnson, also has asked the firm to provide the committee copies of any data from Clintons account still in its possession.
So it will be very interesting to see if she "lied" about them all having to do with yog and her daughter's wedding - except we already know some of them were "work related" because other people (including Sidney Blumenthal) already turned them in.
