2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumWell that is curious
Clinton is backing down from the food fight.
This is on CNN right now. But this is still pretty hot underneath. For the record, so is Sanders.
This is what makes this primary so special and goes with what I was thinking yesterday. The last thing the Clinton camp expected, since small jabs have received no answer, was the Big Mo and her guns.

(7,299 posts)Hillary never claimed that he was not qualified but he made that direct claim of her this morning. Sanders does not exhibit a presidential temperament. He is not a Democrat and he's burning bridges with his words today. He is a Trojan horse that has crashed our Party.

(384 posts)This assumption that she somehow just shuts off or ceases to exist the minute the cameras turn off is just maddening. Either she said it in private and is just refusing to deny it in public or she has lost control over her staff.
I don't believe she has lost control of her staff.

(2,872 posts)There's that term again.. where have I heard that before - oh, that's right..
"Donald J. Trump withstood the onslaught of the establishment yet again. Lyin' Ted Cruz had the Governor of Wisconsin, many conservative talk radio show hosts, and the entire party apparatus behind him. Not only was he propelled by the anti-Trump Super PAC's spending countless millions of dollars on false advertising against Mr. Trump, but he was coordinating with his own Super PAC's (which is illegal) who totally control him. Ted Cruz is worse than a puppet--- he is a Trojan horse, being used by the party bosses attempting to steal the nomination from Mr. Trump. We have total confidence that Mr. Trump will go on to win in New York, where he holds a substantial lead in all the polls, and beyond. Mr. Trump is the only candidate who can secure the delegates needed to win the Republican nomination and ultimately defeat Hillary Clinton, or whomever is the Democratic nominee, in order to Make America Great Again."

A bill her husband signed into law and a bill nearly everyone in congress voted for.

Clinton: Let me put it this way, Joe. I think that what he has been saying about the core issues in his whole campaign doesnt seem to be rooted in an understanding of either the law or the practical ways you get something done. I will leave it to the voters to decide who of us can do the job that the country needs, who can do all aspects of the job, both on the economic domestic issues and on national security and foreign policy."
The Clintonian way... let someone else say, back them up and then claim "I didn't say it".

Having done this long enough as a reporter, dime on dollar that new tactic polled terribly. Nothing in politics is well...accidental. Also him bringing out the big guns likely polled better than they expected.
And yes, this is speculation on my part

(8,541 posts)Even before the "disqualify and destroy" strategy, Hillary went super negative and Bernie only got stronger! I figure we will figure out team Hillary's next move in a few hours.
I'm really starting to wonder about those Panama Papers. Only with a little digging Hillary's ties started showing and the Clinton's love to exploit loopholes.

(7,299 posts)Sanders, on the other hand, said that of her this morning based on the foolish idea that anyone who accepts special interest money is not qualified to be President. That would disqualify our current president and anyone in this race including Sanders himself. The guy embarrassed himself this morning and showed further evidence that he has no fealty what so ever to this President or the Democratic Party.

Not that you will take it, partisans rarely do...but take a cue from her and best to move on.

(3,133 posts)And the next day, and the next onto guns...sandy hook ....and more b.s. that has sent her numbers tumbling this morning.
So of course she's back to talking policy. The NYT has also put out Bernie's senate bill to break up the banks. The total outline, that of course still has to have the mechanics put in, that he tried to say they are not sure of yet. But, Sanders did write a bill, May 2015 and now the NYT says he's correct, and he is the ONLY one to do this!
It's hard to attack Bernie on anything, especially for the dems, his record is that good! So, she's grasping at anything she can. Sandy Hook was a mistake, a YUGE mistake. Stats show, one percent of guns from VT, end up in NY.
Now...let's talk about the heroin all over VT and where it's coming from. Another epidemic she panders too, if she's really a 'new yawker', and cares about our kids and this health issue. She is a disaster for any party, simply her behavior.

(154,021 posts)Covering elections gives you some insight into this process that is different from the partisans. At that level nothing is an accident. The Clinton campaign is on damage control. Don't trust me, just watch, and try to take the rose colored glasses off. Because you know what...I am willing to bet the new slash and burn tactic...really polled badly.
By the way, why do you think she got in the subway today and went to the Bronx? Did I mention Sanders had an event there last week? I feel sorry for the Secret Service detail though. To those of us who pay attention as procedural, not fans...it is way obvious what she is doing today.
On a larger point, why do you think Cruz is going there, and also Brooklyn? THINK.

(1,235 posts)Hillary has the MSM on her side and believes that as long as it's only the MSM she has to worry about they will always play her as the favorite.
For example so far on MSNBC (the so-called liberal network.) Bernie gave a speech this morning, and MSNBC showed that the speech was happening but stopped the coverage of the speech to talk about the 'unqualified' scandal. They said they would come back to the speech if Sanders said anything about this issue .. which he did, and they came back to the speech ONLY for that part.
So then on to their coverage of Hillary who was taking a 'subway trip' -- they covered the reporters scrum before she entered the station, then covered her whole trip on the subway all the while they had some local politician on explaining how the Clintons were such 'royality' in NY.
Then just a few minutes ago they had the full Cruz speech coverage .. they also had full coverage of a short (mercifully) Trump press conference/speech.
But the difference is that during this fake controversy, social media became active, and that's where Hillary loses big time.
Social media is far bigger than all the MSM outlets combined, and the message is not filtered by back-pocket talking heads and 'journalists' that are more worried about the 'horse race' and 'tone policing' than policies and records.
For example got to twitter and look up #HillarySoQualified hashtag, a tag created by Clinton fans to push her qualifications and which totally backfired when people started actually tweeting her REAL "qualifications", unfiltered .... it was a 'killing field' that Hillary and her corporate stooges were unable to control.
--------------------
This morning Clinton almost 'endorsed' Sanders she was so shocked at the social media reaction.
She needs to stick to policies and hope her delegate lead holds up on its own without dirty tricks.
