2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumSanders: The Lie Exposes The Emptiness
Bernie Sanders lied last night when he quoted Hillary Clinton as having said he was "unqualified" to be President. That is a fact that cannot be disputed.
From the comments that have followed that initial outburst today, both from Bernie and from his campaign team, there is a reading that becomes clear. Someone in the campaign say the Washington Post headline yesterday, and ran with it, without reading the entire article or watching the interview it described. Had they done that, they would have seen that Hillary never used that word, and we could have avoided this trip into the gutter.
What this does is prove the very point that Hillary was making; that Bernie hasn't done his homework on even the core issues of his campaign. If that campaign is only reading headlines, and not actually finding out what the whole story is, it's a damning critique. Bernie will never apologize, because admitting this is humiliating, but it might still be preferable to being publicly branded a liar.

(50,254 posts)There was no good reason for her ever to imply that his qualifications were in question. If she had just said "of course he's qualified" Bernie wouldn't have said anything.
It's exactly the same as her 2008 refusal to admit Barack Obama was not Muslim. She knew perfectly well he wasn't a Muslim and she knows perfectly well that Bernie is qualified.

(5,400 posts)Following a week where Hillary Clintons presidential campaign refused to agree to a New York debate unless Bernie Sanders toned down his campaign, the Clinton campaign escalated its negative tone against Sanders, with one aide telling CNN their goal was to disqualify and defeat him.
One day after losing the Wisconsin primary by a sizable margin, Clinton appeared on Morning Joe. POLITICOs Glenn Thrush gave Clinton a flattering interview. The New York Daily News published a cover story headlined, Bernies Sandy Hook shame. It accused Sanders of callously defending gun manufacturers against a lawsuit brought by relatives of the victims of the Sandy Hook school shooting.
As CNN reported, Its the latest chapter in Clintons approach to Sanders. Shes tried ignoring him, brushing him aside, gently dismissing his policies.
The Clinton campaign has refrained from going nuclear on Sanders, aides say, in large part to keep at least some goodwill alive in hopes of unifying the party at the end of the primary fight, according to CNN. No more, a top adviser [said]. The fight is on. Extending an olive branch to Sanders supporters will come later.'

(5,400 posts)I can't imagine CNN coming up with that slogan on their own and attributing it to the Clinton campaign.
"Disqualify" is open to interpretation imo. I see it as meaning as portraying him as not being ready for that 3:00 A.M. call. But in Sanders specific case, as not being qualified to make deals happen/move forward his agenda.

(9,289 posts)then it wasn't a lie. You need to do your homework.
It is a lie because it's not true.
It's a lie borne of ignorance, because no one bothered to check if it was true.

Can Hillary supporters NOT READ in BETWEEN the LINES?
UNQUALIFIED
1.
(of a person) not officially recognized as a practitioner of a particular profession or activity through having satisfied the relevant conditions or requirements.
synonyms: untrained, inexperienced; She essentially has this entire TIME
What?? Because she didn't say the word it's OKAY? Childish word games?
That's the thing about Sanders, he just says it She isn't qualified to be President ESPECIALLY in an election where we don't want money in politics, We don't like TPP, panama Trade act, the iraq war or any other disastrous Trade deals that she'll push for her corporate overlords.
She's been saying he wasn't qualified from the start. It's not easy to pick up what's she's saying unless you're smart enough.
And not one, not one Hillary supporter can tell me, what's so great about these deals that she pushed until recently?
How does this not qualify as incompetence? She qualifies for that.
How does that change the fact that Bernie was either grossly incompetent or an inveterate liar last night?
This isn't just about him using the word 'unqualified'. It's about the fact that his entire attack started because of a lie he should have been smart enough and prepared enough to have known wasn't true.

(10,559 posts)I hate it when Clinton people think the rest of us are stupid. Anyone who saw the interview with Scarborough knew what she was inferring, and yes, she is deserving of the smack down she is receiving for her past incompetence and general stupidity.

(685 posts)And can't figure out the meaning of words.
And I get that nuance in conversation can be difficult, I mean Joe said 'unqualified', Clinton responded 'unprepared' for the Daily News interview. I can see how without stopping to actually hear the words of the entire conversation a person could say they're the same thing.
Understanding conversations can be real hard, especially if your predisposed to think of Sanders' Daily News interview as one of his shining moments or something like that.
I really do understand why you're upset.
Btw, I'm not going to write something ridiculous like: are you advocating beating up a woman because you wrote "she is deserving of the smackdown she's getting". I understand the meaning of your words in the context you were expressing even though to do so would feel like I was scoring some kind of posting point for my candidate. You're welcome.

First, you're insulting peoples' intelligence with this crap. Second, nobody likes a whiner. And third, if you're so brittle that words hurt you this much, you shouldn't be insulting other people, much less running for the presidency.

(786 posts)I don't want to get into the petty garbage that the Hillary Clinton want to keep grabbing at because that is all that they have. This list will show what Hillary Clinton does while she is supposed to be working FOR the American People yet seems to also work for herself. It also shows her bald faced lies about her votes while a Senator.
Wall Street firms funded 14 of her 41 talks. In addition to Goldman Sachs, the list includes Morgan Stanley, Deutsche Bank, Fidelity Investments UBS and Bank of America. Her benefactors also include hedge funds and private equity firms like Apollo Management and Kohlberg, Kravis, Roberts.
Under Clinton's leadership, the State Department approved $165 billion worth of commercial arms sales to 20 nations whose governments have given money to the Clinton Foundation, according to an IBTimes analysis of State Department and foundation data. That figure -- derived from the three full fiscal years of Clintons term as Secretary of State (from October 2010 to September 2012) -- represented nearly double the value of American arms sales made to the those countries and approved by the State Department during the same period of President George W. Bushs second term.
Cheney heaps praise on Hillary Clinton for voting yah on Energy Bill HR 6 Energy Bill 2005. Yet she saying that she voted against it stripping the authority of the EPA to regulate the drilling process called fracturing
The Clinton Foundation received $500,000 from Algeria in 2010 while the country was lobbying the State Department for an increase in weapons export authorization.
Then her vote supporting Bush's war in Iraq.
He vote supporting the Patriot Act.

(10,786 posts)The Clinton campaign announced its intention to "destroy and disqualify" Sanders.
The Clinton campaign proceeded to use Sandy Hook victims as props to smear Sanders. Clinton said Sanders should apologize to the victims of Sandy Hook.
Sanders fought back by saying Clinton was unqualified to be President based on her lack of accountability for her disastrous stances on many of the most important issues that the USA has faced over the last 20 years.
But Sanders is doomed because Clinton simply strongly implied he was unqualified to the point that corporate media headlines declared she had stated that?
It's "gotcha" vs. got accountability.
