with a (now ex-) boyfriend who's Chinese-American... it was hell on earth in terms of racism. As a white person I got my up-close-and-personal education on what it might be like to live with that 24/7. (One example was when he went to get his hair cut at a chain hair salon... every single hair stylist finished who they were working on and disappeared into the back room and there we were sitting in an empty hair salon waiting for a hair cut that never came. Never mind the city trucks that would drive by him walking our dogs in the middle of the day and yell racial epithets.)

It has been pretty widely reported and I don't believe Bill Clinton has ever denied it. Ted Kennedy endorsed Obama shortly afterwards.

http://www.politico.com/story/2010/01/book-obama-biden-clashed-in-08-031302

–In lobbying the late Sen. Ted Kennedy to endorse his wife, former President Bill Clinton angered the liberal icon by belittling Obama. Telling a friend about the conversation, Kennedy recalled Clinton had said “a few years ago, this guy would have been getting us coffee,” the authors paraphrase. A spokesman for the former president declined to comment on the claim.

Leopards don't change their spots at 70 years of age.

Remember folks, this is the guy who told Ted Kennedy that Obama would have been carrying their bags not so long ago. And the one who way back in the early 90's got a hallmark "Crime Omnibus" passed that had a disproportionately harmful impact on minorities.
