2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumThe VATICAN has DEBUNKED the smear already concerning Bernie's invite.
Unbelievable that the hatred for Bernie has come down to this!
So it seems that this lower level employee that put out the hit piece was not aware of conversations going on earlier.

I defended him and Hillary during the time of the constant witch hunts and I don't regret that.
So yeah, it makes me sad too to see what's happening now. It makes me wonder if they have changed or if I was just blind back then.

(67,112 posts)story. It has upset us so much, we changed our voter registration from democratic to Independent/Unaffiliated. No way do we want the DNC/DLC/DWS/HRC to think we are in the bag and think they are great. That said, we will vote democratic in the GE, but we will likely have to hold our noses, as the R alternatives are so despicable.

(10,476 posts)We have one Vatican person saying one thing, one saying the other. Perhaps they need to have a conference to sort their message out.
There were other issues here though, such as the Sanders camp...and perhaps sanders himself...painting this as an audience with then Pope, when it is in fact a conference at the Vatican attended by many, and a meeting with the Pope himself isn't in the cards.
You still have some untwisting left to do, there.

(3,040 posts)Yet another easily debunked smear against Sanders. After 5 days and 5 smears debunked, I wonder what Hillary's camp will try next. Their rush to get out these new 'scorched earth' campaign has resulted in weak smears with little facts to back them that have almost immediately been disproved -- even by media organizations that back her like NYT did this week.
It is funny how no matter how much they dig, Hillary cannot find anything that sticks.
ETA: yes I know that Hillary doesn't run the Vatican, but she does have some pull with media organizations that report anti Sanders stories like the one at hand.

No wonder her "trustworthiness" is almost the lowest of all candidates except Trump and
Bernie's is the highest. She's earned her position as one of the biggest liars among all candidates.

(15,445 posts)The office of the pope moved quickly to distance the pontiff from Sanderss visit. Father Federico Lombardi, the Popes spokesman, said Sanders had been invited not by the pope but by the pontifical academy of social sciences. Lombardi told the Italian news agency Ansa: For the moment there is no expectation that there will also be a meeting with the pope.
He wasn't invited by the Pope.
Bernie lied on that account.

"on the phone from New York" sounds to me like the Bishop is in NY and some communication was made between him and Sanders. The invitation was probably extended here and the Bishop had not told Archer about it.
My speculation. Still don't know who initiated the invitation.

Sanders made the first move, for the obvious reasons, Margaret Archer, president of the Pontifical Academy of Social Sciences, which is hosting the conference Sanders will attend, said in a telephone interview. I think in a sense he may be going for the Catholic vote but this is not the Catholic vote and he should remember that and act accordingly -- not that he will.
If Archer truly felt she was "dishonored" by not being contacted, so be it. But where the hell does the next paragraph come from? Why did she immediately turn it political, and have the audacity to opine on Senator Sanders' motives, and in such a public way? And with such a snotty "not that he will" at the end of it. Has she ever met him? I doubt it. There's something more to this than meets the eye.

Quibble, quibble, quibble.
Here's all I have to say to that mess: if you ask someone the time and they say it's 12:01 and your watch says 12:02, that is not lying. Everything ever uttered by someone you don't like is not lying. Get a grip!
You, in fact, are exaggerating -- so, according to your definition, you're lying too. Anybody can play that game, and it circles the drain and goes nowhere.
Time to fill up my DU Trash Can again. That thing is getting a workout.
