Bernie Sanders took a brief break from the campaign trail Friday night, and did what most visitors to New York City do: Attend a Broadway show. Following a rally in Brooklyn's Greenpoint neighborhood, Sanders and his wife Jane made a beeline to Manhattan to catch the evening performance of the critically-acclaimed musical "Hamilton," about founding father Alexander Hamilton.
Sanders arrived in Times Square, exited his motorcade, and walked a block to the 1,319-seat Richard Rodgers Theater, where he and Jane entered through a side door. Although he didn't enter through the main entrance, theatergoers waiting in line cheered as he walked by, waving with one hand, and holding Jane's hand with the other.
Sanders was mobbed by theatergoers inside the lobby and received a standing ovation when he entered the theater. The Vermont senator also met with the cast backstage after the performance. Both the Sanders campaign and a source with the production say Sanders paid face value for his tickets.

Attending the musical wasn't Sanders' only brush with the arts on Friday: Actress Susan Sarandon joined Sanders at his rally in Greenpoint.
Sanders' Democratic presidential rival Hillary Clinton saw "Hamilton" in February with husband Bill and daughter Chelsea, and President Obama invited the creator and star of the musical, Lin-Manuel Miranda, along with its cast to the White House in March.

The rest of us get half price tickets and see a Broadway (or off-Broadway) show.

It's funny because Hillbots will criticize Bernie for not having enough wealth, and then suddenly he's an elitist. Lol.

(36,649 posts)The New York Times reports that the outing was obtained the way the normals do, by buying the tickets. In fact, the play is sold out through the end of the year. So how is that possible, when tickets have been so scarce that people have been selling them for double and triple their value? From the Times:
"Man Of The People" my ass. He used his power & influence to get a hugely discounted price on one of the hottest tickets in town, paying $167 each for tickets that normally go for $1150-$3450.

It was right after the election of Nov. 1980 and the defeat to Reagan, a total shock that took much time, or never! to get over.

(6,719 posts)A wonderful break, a great show, a fine time to be away from the campaign. Watching the attacks in this campaign season makes me wonder why anyone wants to run for president. I respect Bernie for his commitment to getting his truth out there. For the sake of our country, I hope his message/movement gains traction and becomes an on-going movement.
