You'll have to get over it, I've been speaking out against religion and for our rights for over a decade here.

(3,937 posts)of invitees? Do you think some Cardinal just fessed up at the morning meeting like "oh by the way I kind of inserted the Vatican into the US Primaries at a key moment in the race. Hope you're cool with that."
The Vatican is knows what it is doing here. It may surprise conservative Catholics to see Sanders picked over others but this is a different Pope and he shares some goals with Sanders.

Or is Bernie going to the Vatican the greater sin?

(115,943 posts)The stink of desperation is in the air but it's not coming from the Sanders campaign. Will you just relax about Sanders' Vatican invitation? Either he goes or he doesn't. I expect he'll go if he can, regardless of what the NY polls say, because economic justice is the most important issue for him. Whether he actually meets the Pope won't matter; that's not why he's going or why he was invited.
Now will you please tell us why you are so obsessed with this?
DrDan
(20,411 posts)stating on national TV that he would be meeting the Pope does matter as we all know it is not true

Don't be so skeptical of everything he does.

(30,481 posts)It's all on Clinton at this point. If Clinton holds strong and minimizes crisis, it's a done deal independent of anything Sanders might do.

What a BASIC OP.
Sanders is damned if he goes and damned if he doesn't.
"How dare he turn down an invite from the Vatican, to possible meet the Pope!"
But, for some reason it's a "Hail Mary Pass" which requires a teammate to catch the ball. I guess the Vatican is in bed with him.
I am enjoying the neurotic adventures of some of the posters here, during the issue. It's above normal.

(8,352 posts)Keep up the 'discredit & disqualify' directives.
Do not waver from that goal. Stay focused on the prize, which sadly doesn't appear to be winning NY, but rather tearing down a decent man. But hey the Clintons are well know for their dirty political machine.

(819 posts)I am sick and tired of politicians that use and take laborers and people of all races for granted. Speeches and sound bites that play ok, but it's the 250,000 speeches and assurances to the wealthy and the selling out of the laborers and people of all races that troubles me more.
Sanders has the courage to bring the ideas and judgement to fight for us and not be satisfied with crumbs as a compromise.
Petty fake concern about the Vatican meeting and knickers getting wadded up in a bunch over this instead of the incredible inequity here in the US is telling.

1) His supporters are completely oblivious, or completely buy-in to the hypocrisy he's displayed
And
2) He totally crumpled within hours when he was held to the same impossible standard of conduct that Hillary has been held to every day - and survived - for 30 yrs.

Even so, I don't think Bernie is that cynical. I think he genuinely likes Pope Frances and thought this might be an opportunity to meet him. I don't think he thought about the potential political ramifications. That is good and bad. Good because it reflects a certain genuineness and bad because it reflects a certain political naivete.
